budget y pipe is rusting

so i put in an obx catback and magnaflow cat today (used obx catback was only 200 for stainless steel, looks like great quality too) and got a good glance at my y pipe, which started to show signs of rust on the welds and some surfaces.

now when i ordered it i ordered a stainless one. when i got it it didnt look like 304 stainless steel, but i was so eaget to put it in is just did and hoped for the best. now im pretty sure it aint stainless and im pizzed! it was a ***** to put in too, not to mention what the pipe cost.

so what do i do now??? im frigen pizzzzzzed!!!!

i thought all of their pipes were supposed to be stainless. anyone else has this problem? could this just be surface rust and it will not go all the way through?

All pipes rust eventually.. especially in your weather. It could be nothing more than surface rust, like with chrome.

Mine is stainless steel. You should have sent it back when you got it.

It wouldn't hurt to go through a decent car wash once in a while and get your undercarriage sprayed clean. Or jack the car up and get under there with a high-pressure nozzle and do it yourself.

I got my car rust proofed prior to delivery and don't regret it.

Try a magnet on it, you will soon find out if its 304 or not. A magnet will not stick very well to 304 but will grab the aluminized steel really well.

You cannot tell by just looking at it unless you are an expert. There are many different types of stainless and finishes. Try the magnet.

I don't have a magnet, but I thought one would stick to a stainless steel kitchen faucet.

and t304 is one of the most corrosion-prone grades of stainless steel. not to say that yours isn't aluminized, but don't be so quick to assume.

perhaps thats true, im just lookin at my OBX 304ss catback and its spotless, still looks brand new. (by the way i dont know y everyone thinks the OBX is garbage, for under 300 bucks its quality is that of cattman, and sounds as good as anyother catback).
btw that is a sweet lookin 4th gen, looks very clean!
