I have an auto transmission and has anyone experieced the gear stick tough to move from park to any gear and viceversa from gear to park?

The reason I ask is when I put the car into park it kind of free falls into the slot with some gear metals touching each other. When this happens when I pull it back from park to gear it is uptight (FYI, this tightness is not noticed when there is a smooth move from gear->park). BTW, this wierd behaviour does not happen when I move gears other than park->drive or drive->park.

My concern is if there is something wrong with the way I disengage from gear to park (I do depress the brake pedal down and then the transmission pin releases for the final move from gear to park). Strange but I felt like getting others opinions.
