Removing rotor hat rust

Okay, my new Brembo blanks are not a nice as my OEMs (brand?). My OEM rotor hats came painted thereby preventing corrosion and rust. So now my new 3 week old Brembo blanks have rust all over the rotor hats and the area not wiped by the pads. No wonder the were way cheaper than replacing them through Nissan. My question is...how would I go about removing the rust from the hats inorder to paint them? Just rub them with a Scotchbrite pad? The rust is 3 weeks old but is covering the hat with rust similar to what you get on your rotor braking surface after washing your car. The rust is bright orange right now but will it darken and not be as visible? Is it worth the effort? Any insight.
Thanks

you probably didnt get them zinc or candium plated..
anyways.. as long as rust isnt covering the air vents of the rotors.. it shouldnt be an issue as far as performance
