Performance with my Berk is decent, I guess.....but the real reasoning behind the purchase was the nice throaty growl at WOT. I noticed just a bit better throttle response and some gains in the 4-5k RPM range, but nothing too crazy. The y-pipe would definitely help you out though.

even tho i have a 2K2, soonr basically had the same results i did. around town performance is ok, highway travel is pretty nice, mine feel like it responds better down towards 3K, but you cant beat that growl when you hit the gas, or the nice rumble around 2500 rpms.

Price for the Berk is good... go with the Apexi set-up, it looks real nice in the engine bay. Under normal driving there is a low growl, nothing to loud, but under WOT it sounds MEAN!!! A Y & B pipe combo will go far to help performance. Good luck.

i like my Berk w/K&N filter. better gas mileage along with a nice growl at WOT. you can feel the car pull a little harder after 3k RPM.

Oh yeah... better gas mileage here too. I went up an average of 2 MPG after install.

APEXI is louder than the K&N at normal driving? Or does it not matter? anyone know?

unless of course ya always wanna hear the intake at WOT, which I did for the week after I installed it... then MPG went down by like 5....

Don't matter when driving... but it does when cleaning... Apexi is a dry filter, while K&N is an oiled... forgive me for the lack of more technical language here...

The Apexi reduces your chances slightly of blowing the MAF after cleaning, since there's no risk of over-oiling the filter....

Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

I believe that the Berk and Frankencar and other WAIs are not "loud" during normal driving... ya can barely hear mine unless the windows are down and the radio/cd player is off, then ya hear the hissing as its taking in air, but there is no "roar" till over 3000-4000 rpms....

As for a Berk/Franken comparison, they are essentially the same thing in terms of components, so I wouldn't think that one would be louder than the other, I know outside the car, ya can't tell.... even if so, the difference is probably negligible... IMO, this is really a minor point....

Berk and Frankencar are basically the same. Customer service (definitely) and price I believe) are better with Berk. My Frankencar definitely has a nice growl and some mid range gains. At least it sure sounds like it. lol

berk and frankencar will pretty much be the same. im not sure how the Apex'i filter is different than the K&N tho, and how that will change performance.

I'm with you.... I don't think that either one is louder than the other and I'd guess that performance is the same. The only difference is Apexi is non oiled and K&N is. I like my Berk, I've had an Injen, and stock with K&N drop in and I like Berk the best so far.

so how does the MAF blow if I clean the K&N filter... I never seem to have a problem with my 4th gen....

If it's because of the over-excess oil... would it help if I leave the filter out for like a night to dry?

Yeah, over-oiling is a possible cause of MAF malfunction... and I think leaving it longer to dry does help a little, but does oil really "dry"? I dunno. I'd think that the best way is to just oil it lightly... if that's even possible... ... I re-oiled my old K&N panel filter and it was fine... guess I just got lucky?

Sorry, hopefully someone else will have a better answer....

Found this on www.eautoworks.com:

The dual funnel Power Intake evolved from the highly successful Super Intake. Subtle refinements in the design and filter element resulted in a 10% reduction in pressure drop. Utilizing an upper and lower funnel, the Power Intake reduces air turbulence within the filter and creates smooth airflow into the throttle body. The Power Intake is a maintenance-free dry-type air filter and will alleviate the problem of filter oil from "wet" air cleaners interfering with the air-flow meter. Accept no imitations.

So I guess ya never clean it? Sounds too good to be true....

You're right -- the difference is that the apexi is not a lifetime filter like the K&N. Most say that its life runs anywhere from 20-30k miles.

another intake thread if i were you i would just get the placeracing through the gd....you do not have to use the lower piping if you don't want to...thats the way i have it right now until my buddy lends me his holesaw.

a little off topic, but not really...

is this: AEM Bypass Valve, worth the extra $? It seems to me it would only work if the whole intake was under water.

Ohwerll, I will probably get Yelled at for asking a question.

I believe those are really only for CAI's with the filters down low in the engine bay, where there is risk of water from puddles or what have you hitting the filter. Short ram intakes like the Berk, Stillen, Weapon R, and Frankencar don't need it... but you could use it for the Injen and Place Racing... although in saying that, I haven't heard of anyone actually having it on one of theirs. Only thing I've heard .Org people having is the splash guard that Injen makes, not the bypass valve. Anyone else wanna comment on this?

the AEM bypass valve is only worth the extra money if you have a CAI, and you live in an area where there is a lot of rainfall. The whole intake doesn't have to be submerged in order for it to suck up water, but I would still be weary of driving in the rain with a CAI.

As Puppetmaster said, you don't need a Bypass valve for Short Ram intakes, since water will not be getting into that portion of the engine bay.

dont get the bypass valve if u want performance....i had an injen before with the AEM bypass valve and LOST MAJOR POWER. Now, I'm runnin' frankencar/apexi. So I guess thats enuff to say which is better than which.

I have just the Berk intake filter with the stock mid-pipe. I didn't notice any power increase.

I just recently installed my frankencar intake with K&N Filter and i love it. I agree with those above who say the frankencar/berk sound the same and that it wont make a difference in sound or performance with either the K&N or Apexi, its just a personal choice i guess.
I Love the way the frankencar sounds though!!!! Just regular city driving you dont hear anything but once it gets to about 2500 RPM it starts to howl and keeps getting better as the RPM increases.
I think i feel the most power gain in 3rd gear overall but i cant confirm that, (just what i think i feel)

yeah, i agree that it SEEMS that i lost power in the lower gears, but i cant really confirm it. it doesnt surprise me if i did, being that its a common thing. you would just need UDPs or a y pipe or something to make up the difference (and then some)

8 days till y-pipe install baby! (Hopefully I can find all my tools when I actually have to get it done)

Of course, that also means one paper and 3 finals between now and then...

So an udp would help resolve this? how so?
