Stock exhaust tip

I just had my stock muffler replaced with another stock muffler. The only problem is that new Nissan mufflers don't come with the chrome exhaust tip that the stock SE comes with. Does anyone know if Nissan sells them aftermarket? The stock tip is welded to the stock muffler so there is really no way of getting it off.

Isn't it retained with an integral clamp (dimpled) with a nut and bolt? I never noticed any welds on my 00 but I could have easily missed a couple of tack welds. It was a dealer installed option and yours may have been welded because of overkill or as a later repair. If you still have the old muffler can you not just carefully grind off the welds with a small grinding or cutoff wheel attached to a Dremel for example? If they are more than a couple of tack welds and are more like full penetration welds that's a pain, but if you have the time it may still be worthwhile. You may also have to shear or grind off the bolt/nut as well (if it's there). Any minor damage will not be noticeable it seems to me.

What was wrong with your old one? Was it rusted or something?

The part of the muffler started rotting. Also the flange between the catback and b-pipe started rotting so I just had it replaced under the emissions waranty through the dealer.
