Hello.
This is my problem with my 2000 Maxima SE. It has 27K miles and is an automatic. Occasionally when I get on it especially between 20-40 mph, when it downshifts there is a god-awful squeal coming from the front driver side. It's not a loose belt-like squeal Any ideas what it could be??? Any help is appreciated.

I think so... That certainly falls under the 3yr/36k thing, if not the 60mo/60k one....

Go back to the dealer, and just hope that you/they can reproduce it. If they can't, make sure they write up a work order indicating that you brought it in and why. This way if it gets worse, or whatever is causing it, breaks out of warranty you have a record of the problem starting while under warranty. It does sound like some sort of transmssion problem.

mine does it too when cold...

its a dying tranny. I cant seem to get the dealers to figure out how to reproduced it (step 1: accelerate step 2: listen). I asked them to do the solenoid with no luck, so given all that, I'm just waiting for the tranny to die.
Hopefully it wont leave me in oncoming traffic and kills me. I've been making sure my wife doesnt drive it too much for now. I mean, the only time I really need the power is when I'm merging or getting out onto a busy street and thats when it squeals and loses power.

anyway, I have the new TCM.. I had to beg for that for 8 months. I've given up begging for the solenoids. I bet the new tranny have have to put in will have them already. I've just gottten tired being the squeaky, ummmm, wheel.

Thanks for the input

update...

Went to the shop with the info in hand. Thanks to punkdork.
I now have an appointment for the new selenoid and TCM for next Thursday. What worries me about the squeal is that is something they have never heard of and the only time I have noticed the squeal is after 20-30 minutes of driving. Strange.

At the same time they will be replacing the stabilizer link (potholes in NE suck). I will keep you posted.

Thanks again!
