Max locks itself!!!

The doors on my 03 Max have started locking themselves! Several times lately I've gone to get in it (in my garage, keys in ign) and the doors are locked. Sometimes just the driver, sometimes all 4. First time it happened I thought I must have hit the button accidently.

I've seen the TSB for earlier years but not for 03. Dealer has never heard of the problem. Yeah right. Says he doesn't have a TSB on the 03.

Have any of you had this problem and/or know what the solution might be?

Thanks

check your fuses. Once I blew a fuse for lighting or something and the doors locked themselves over and over....look at all the fuses under the dash in the fuse box...

Thanks for the tip. I just checked all fuses in dash and under hood and all look good. I didn't test with a multimeter, just eyeball and all looks as it should.

What next?

turbozx, I printed that tsb and took it to the dealer today. After he studied it for an hour or so, told me it didn't apply to the 03's. LOL Where do they find these guys?!

I think you are right though, probably the same problem.

I intend to stay after the dealer until they find the problem and fix it. At this rate however, I'll probably have to find the fix here and tell them.

Do you guys have a link to the actual tsb on this? I'd like to print it out and show my dealer. I experience this problem on occasion too.

I have a 2k and I have had the same problem. The car was running and I had another remote and nothing would open the car finally after about 30 mins the car opened up. Yeah sometimes just the driver door will do it but sometimes all the doors. If the car is garaged just leave the window open enough to reach in.

From the Owner's Manual:

If the following operation is not carried out within 5 minutes after pressing the "Unlock" button, all doors will be locked automatically.

- When any door is not opened.

- When the ignition key is not set in the ON position.

I know this scenario doesn't describe all your situations and there is a TSB on door locking, but for some of the situations is could be an as designed action. Either way it surprised the hell out of me the first time it happened. I've never had it lock my keys in the car but I always take my keys with me if I get out of the car and don't have a spare set nearby (at home) or if the windows are up. Next thing ya know the windows will start rolling up and the doors then locking on their own.....Christine?

It also happened to my dads 99 max, he had the car on and came out to give me something and when he went back to his car he was like my car is locked. I thought he was joking but it was and the car was fully on.

I always roll the window down just a little bit when I get out of my car with it still running. A few years ago I was returning a video and pulled up to the store because it was pouring out and ran up to the drop slot and returned it. When I got back to my car (prelude not maxima) it was locked, running with lights, radio and wipers going. Luckily my window was down a few mm and I went next door to the cleaners and got a hanger and eventually hit the unlock button but not before getting completely soaked. But for those 5-10 minutes I was so pissed off that I always take the keys with me or leave the window down.

What you are describing is called auto relock. That has happened to me numerous times while my car is parked in the garage. It took Nissan a few attempts to "fix" this condition because they were not aware of this feature. The first time I had die-electric grease applied to my door lock switch connectors. The second time they replaced the door lock switch and harness. The third time they called Nissan tech support and found out about the auto relock. I did end up getting one of my remote transmitters replaced because it was bad.

Nathan, see the sticky on TSB. It's listed in one of the post there.

Zuprman, thanks for the info. I did not know that option existed. It would seem thought that it would lock every time I got out. My car only does it when it wants to. LOL

You can turn this feature off. First look on back of remote and see what that says. If no info look in manual. My brothers 2001 does this too and he turned it off

I'm afraid to say your car may be possessed by a demon. An exocism may be in order, or crush it like they did in Christine. Although can't say for sure that that crushing thing works. Sorry for the bad news..... :

Best of luck with the locking.
