01 SE Clutch Pedal Pressure (too stiff) ?
Calling all experts,,, drove a mint 01' tonight with 42k on the clock. It is the first 5 speed maxima i have driven but the required pressure did feel awful hard compared with my 94 G20 5speed (althought i do have a new clutch and clutch cable)
Is this normal? Can you guys give me an idea of some other cars so I can maybe "benchmark" it. I did notice when i had the car door open and the engine off, and i was pumping the clutch pedal it was making some squeeking noises.
(to the best of my knowledge the car is 100% stock and no aftermarket pressure plate etc)
So A) give me an idea of pedal pressure compared with other cars
B) input as to why a late model (5/01) with 42k may need a clutch cable

its pressure plate is worn, my Max feels the same way. I done clutches on Maximas in the past, I get into other .org members cars after doing a clutch on their car and go WTF ? where did the clutch go ? The clutch feels soo light when a new Exedy or stock is installed. My ACT is pretty heavy compared to my SE-Rs JWT clutch, but its pretty much same stiffness as my 93 G20 with a ACT Xtreme setup- anything else slips under 24psi of T4 turbo madness

Blackbird - I think you must be right about something being wrong b/c the clutch is damn heavy, when i got back into my G20, it felt like a feather.
Is the 01 Clutch hydrolic?
With only 42k on the clock, the car must have been driven very hard, although it is very very clean.
If the pressure plate was weak thou, wouldnt the clutch slip under load?
Anyone else care to chime in?

My ACT even when heavy wont slip, but abuse the clutch hard and try to get it into gear and it won't let ya- 1st gear or 2nd won't engage. This is why I drive gently and don't beat on the car much, plus its great on gas that way- around 26MPG, and up to 32MPG on looong highway trips with cruise on.

So if I understand your first post correctly, A stock Max clutch should be about the same pedal pressure as a G20?
If this is the case then no doubt something is up. And finally, is the 5th gen max a hydrolic slave clutch setup?
Thanks for all of your help

All Maximas have hydraulic clutch setups, 3rd gen - up atleast. Stock Maxima clutch should be very light, I recall it being lighter than my JWT clutch I had in my 93 SE-R when I purchased the Max as my daily driver and made the SE-R a track car. JWT clutch was considered pretty much like stock in pedal stiffness. My ACT is pretty stiff now, and the PPlate is pretty much worn out to the point that if I beat on the clutch hard it won't lemme engage 1st or 2nd gear when coming to a stop till the clutch cools off. I got a Exedy Racing to install sometime this week, so I will post any complains I have with it.
