Stick Shift fun or hassle
either way you go, it's a great car. For a guy who loves driving in general, and what's the added control, and drive feel, stick is great. For a daily driver in situations where the driver is in stand still traffic, and or the guy is just lazy or impatient, stick sucks.
Yet, the great part about having our car is there isnt a huge difference in performance figures going from one to the other, and then again you may always get a vbmod if you want a more aggressive automatic.
My 6 speed, was my first ever stick car, and at first it was pretty annoying, but after about 3 years, it's pretty much a thing i do without even realizing, i never have an issue shifting, just my only concern is my reverse gear, and the reverse lockout ring, which i really dislike.
Yet i love the car in 6 speed, and me personally, wouldn't have it any other way.

yeah i really dont like the reverse lockout ring either. stupid construction. why did they do it anyway when the 350z has the normal shifter. and because of the reverse lockout ring, i cant put any *** i want on the max. anybody know if you could get rid of it ?
My first car was auto.....great to learn on so you can get a feel for driving. Once I was able to buy a stick it was night and day. Now I know why people love driving. Right now I have my 2 cars and they are both stick. As much as it sucks bumper to bumper nothing beats having 5(or6 if your lucky) gears to choose from and leaving it in that gear into and out of a turn all the way to redline..........cant beat it

Snow? I'm not even gonna go there...
But then again maybe I just didn't know how to handle the car.... so I guess with these Falken ZEIXs my handling skills just got a heckuva lot beter...

I drive an auto now and have done pretty exclusively. I drove my sisiter-inlaws VW Golf for a week to see how it was like to drive a manual. I think I this experience ruined me for a stick because the clutch was on the way out. The car was a total pain in the *** to drive.
My drive to work is also pretty uneventful. It's either straight highway driving so I'm just cruising in 5th gear or it's bumber to bumber traffic giving my right arm and left leg a good workout.
These two factors led me to decide on an auto tranny for my Maxima. I'm seriously considering a manual transmission for my next car though. It will save me a few bucks and maybe more fun to drive. Everything seems to 6 speeds now though. I though shifting thru 5 was a workout

that just because it was a golf. those car are POS. which moel it was? that doesnt matter, their all the same. lol.
Plus if you get a 6 speed, it will help you out because you cruise on the freeway and that is what 6th gear is for.

now as for the hindu/pakistani comment, 80% of yellow cabs are from there, and they drive like dumbA$$es.
of course, you never been here i suppose, so how would you know......
Manual tranny all the way. Much more acceleration control, makes you pay more attention to driving, great skill to acquire, fun.
Serious traffic like Manhattan and I might prefer an auto.
As for Potenzas . . . if you feel that those tires are safe, it is likely because you are an extremely cautious driver in general AND have not yet been put in a position for the tires to show you how bad they really are. All I can say is IMO they are extremely dangerous because of their tendency to hydroplane and spin. Cornering in the rain or driving on roads covered with water is hazardous.
They should never have been used on a front wheel drive car with the amount of power/torque of the Maxima. I drove with those tires for 30k miles in Florida and was stupid to have done so.

Take two identical cars, one stick and one auto.
Drive the stick 10/10ths up a mountain road, full heel-toeing and wringing the gearbox out all the way. Then try and do the same with an auto--it will be infinitely more bland. This is also why I'd refuse to get anywhere near a CVT, no matter how "perfect" it is.
Manuals let you have full control over the engine. And if your left foot is getting tired in traffic, you can always launch it every time the traffic moves...
In all seriousness, I've NEVER wished I had an automatic. Just sometimes I wish I had cupholders.
I've always enjoyed driving stick; there's something about not having any stupid torque converter between you and the engine and having that extra control that's much more arousing than a slushbox.
I'll never have an auto unless it's something like an E55, and it's unavailable in stick. While traffic has never bothered me, that might just be me.
Stick is worth it if you're good with a stick shift.
Find a friend who's willing to let you drive his (or her??
) stick shift for a week or so, and after that you can make your decision--if you really like shifting sticks that much, then go for it.

Stick shift is soooo much fun!!! I had a 99 passat before i got my max and it was an auto it had to be the most boring thing to drive!!! the only time that stick becomes a pain is when you are stuck in a lot of traffic then it gets a little anoying but the good times out weigh the bad by like 1000 to 1 theres no way i would ever go back to an auto!!!
