Has anyone here experienced a light thumping noise coming from the front of an 02 6-sp Maxima? I get this when ever I go over bumps. Just trying to pin point where it could be coming from. It sounds as if it's coming from a loose suspension part. Any help is appreciated.

Btw, I do have a lowered suspension and a strut tower bar but I've checked these parts out and can't find the problem.

 

I've an 03 with the same noise. Check and see if your hood is visibly vibrating going over rough surfaces. You'll have to vary your speed to see if it's more visible. The dealer took care of my noise by tightening, lowering down the hood latch. However, my hood still can be seen to vibrate eventhough the thumping noise is gone. Kind of makes me wonder if the hydrolics up top is loose with the vibration is more severe on the drivers side. The hood is definately too cheap and light for this car and if any attaching elements are loose can allow wind to catch under and vibrate it too.

 

Funny you mentioned that because last night I was still trying to figure out what was loose so I started shaking the car up and down at the front and back. Upon doing the front I noticed the hood had alot of play to it. I tried adjusting the rubber stoppers for the hood but that didn't help. I'll trying repositioning the hood latch and see what happens. The thumping noise does happen on small and big bumps but nothing at highway speeds. Thanks.
