Smoked Taillights

I hope this isn't a repost, if it is, sorry, but is there a way to smoke taillights and sidemarkers with a film like window tint or similar? I have heard of people using paint, but I really don't want to paint my taillights. I am sure I have seen it on 350z's but I don't know where to get the stuff or if it will work on my car with the complex curves of the lights.

Somewhere in this thread that was just a couple below yours, I think Irish and Blues mention what they did to smoke/blacken their side markers.... ya might be able to do that to your tails too... try asking one of em.... all the best...

Night Shades is what you want for the tail lights. A few members have done it, but I can't remember who.

I have the AE dark tails, so I don't need to smoke them, but I did use it for my corners. You could also use some Dupli-Color black for the corners. irish44j did it that way.

I don't know if anyone has used the Dupli-Color on the tails, though.

I used night shades as well but you dont have to use something that is transparent. you can go with something that is opaque, as long as you mask off the part where the lights are. theres a nice write up at http://www.kevinfisher.net/web_serve...light-mod.html . although i used night shades, im probably going to repaint them with opaque spray paint, because it doesn't look as flat (pics of taillights http://www.cardomain.com/id/wasteofsoap ). Also, i painted the side lights with night shades, which i think is illegal so i just went ahead and opaqued 'em.

Awesome man, that's what I'm looking for. Thanks for being the first one to not tell me about paint after I said I don't want paint.

Well I appreciate you sharing it with me. I'm not even sure I will do it, and I won't spread it around town or anything, so you will still be unique. That stuff is awesome though.

I am not worried about being unique. I just wanted to get the film have it put on and floss it then say what it was. Idea came from fellow member by the name of Irvine78 who has it on his G35.

If i'm gonna use night shades to smoke em, do i need to get clear lenses first, or can i just paint my stock ones. I dont want to go with flat black, but more of a grey to go with the paint. Can i get a grey color with the stock ones?

glad to see people are still finding my how-to helpful.

you CAN simply paint over your stock reds ones...no need to buy clear first.

if you use night shades as i did in my how-to, the more layers you apply the blacker it gets. if you want a grayer tint...just apply less and fewer coats. mine actually turned out a little grayer than i wanted...should of done 1 or 2 more coats on mine - but matchs my gray paint better i guess.

then make sure you hit it with some soft of clear coat to seal it and give it some gloss if you don't want it to look flat. the nite shades drys really dull.
