And what adapters are u guys using to hook up your ipod to the car stereo. Whats the best way to get the best reception??? I do live in a big metro area L.A so im ah lil worried that its just gonna cause too much static. Would it be a waste of money for me to get a ipod if i just wannna use it for my car?????? I had no luck with the FM transmitters (iTrip and Belkin). I suspect they would not work for you either. I use a Sony cassette adapter + Belkin Auto charger and it works great. I keep the iPod in one of the center console cups partly out of the case. This way I can skip tracks easily without having to look. Hope this helps.

I have a Dell 20Gig JukeBox but I have it connected via the CD changer harness with this adapter . I tried the FM transmitter. It sucked badly.

Basically this adapter (and the alpine to rca adapter -around $20) sounds amazing. Now I have over 2000 songs at my command and they all sound like I have a cd in.

My car is a 2002.

There's quite a few threads going on about how to hook up an iPod. A couple of people have tried the Soundgate but have had noise problems. Something to do with how the adapter is grounded. Here's a link to one of the threads: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=345413

I think this problem only occurs with the stock Bose system though.

Shaydz, from the sounds of your post it looks like you are not using the stock system but an Alpine system?

No, it's the stock Bose w/ CD Changer. I unplugged the CD Changer to use the adapter. The adapter is designed to adapt a Bose system to being able to use an Alpine CD Changer (of course I am not using it for that), Then there is another cheaper adapter that goes from the Bose to Alpine box to RCA jacks. I only get slight background when I am touching the JukeBox. Otherwise, no engine noise or anything.

No, But I ripped all my CD's to mp3 anyway and their in the JukeBox. When I sell the car (plan on keeping it til it dies), I can pull the adapter out and plug the changer back in. And yes, the stereo is the factory Bose w/ CD changer. Another reason I wanted to do this is I have the Navi and will be putting a Video conversion on it in a few months to allow me to plug in a portable DVD player to a video input for the Navi screen. Audio will go into the same plug I use for the JukeBox.

Later

I wouldn't bother with a hard-wire hookup. I just use an fm transmitter for my Ipod and it works great. And you can use it anywhere there's an fm radio.

I just picked up a 20gig iPod and will soon be trying to figure out a decent way to mount a docking station in my car. Threads like these are quite helpful for that process.

I've been hearing that quite a bit. I currently have the OEM (non-bose) HU. Not sure if that will create an issue or not at this point.

you should try to get together with someone that has it set up with an fm modulator... wether a local guy at the car audio shop, a friend, or an orger...

I'll be getting either the iPod mini or the 20g iPod very very soon. I do know that the iTrip FM transmitters 5+ of my friends use are somewhat ok...probably about as good as cassette quality. At least that option is wireless. Using a cassette adaptor is ugly and the wires get in the way.

I plan to hardwire it as well. I've done a little bit of research, but I haven't thoroughly reviewed other people's current setups yet.

There is alot more radio interference in large metropolitan areas like Washington DC, LA, NYC, Dallas, etc. than there is in Vancouver....Vancouver essentially just gets radio from itself and maybe NW Washington, while here in DC we have to deal with signals from DC, Baltimore, NoVa., even Philly sometimes....

that explains why your modulator works well in BC.

btw, yes, I've been to Vancouver many times

the thing with the fm modulators is that if u live in a highly populated area chaces are that those fm stations more or less have soem type of broadcast on em... car kit through the tape dec is the best way to go IMO

or...as I said in my thread, what I did - the Alpine unit - jams ALL radio signals so there is no interference....

There are other ones that do that as well, can't remember which brands though. But for that price, I'd just hardwire it in. Plus I'd want it to look totally stock, no brackets, wires, mounts or anything else visible.

btw...I picked up a 20gig iPod today. This is me =
