2000 maxima has pining that will not stop. Tried fuel inejector cleaner and gas from bp, chevron and texaco. All of the gas I am using is premium. What else could I do to try to stop it?

it does it around 1.5k-3.5k rpms

 

does it ping when you are trying to accelerate? or when you're going up a hill?

If so, I am 95% sure that the problem is with your ignition coils. Have you had your ignition coils replaced before?

 

when you say "pinging" do you mean a "ticking" sound comming from the engine? because my 00' max does the same... it just got louder and my mech. said i have a bad fuel injector. i am going to have it checked out some more and replace if necesarry. i also have never run a cleaner through my fuel system and i have 73K on the car....

 

yea, the pining is a ticking noise coming from the engine. It does it both up hills and when accelerate.

 

to be honest some ticking is normal for the engine, my mech. told me that maximas' just have loud injectors. however for me one has gotten louder than the rest and is noticable....

 

on your model year Maxima, it is probably the coil packs.

 

prob not... all my coil packs are new and it still ticks.

 

I know this is not normal. It used to not do it unless I did not put premium in it. I guess I could try the ignition coils unless someone else has any ideas

 

Wait, let's make sure of what you are speaking of..... if it's the injectors "ticking", you will notice it most with the car idling with the hood up. The "ticking" you hear is the injectors or valvetrain.

Pinging occurs when you drive the car. I cannot hear my injectors "ticking" when I am driving the car.

If it is pinging you are hearing, take it to the dealer and make sure they write a ticket on it, not matter the outcome. My 02 pings, even with premium. Numerous frustrations with the car and most with the dip**** dealer. Prolly last Nissan for me; at least in the near future.

 

last time I took it to the dealer for pining the said they had to clean the injectors. They said they used some kinda blasting thing or something. Anyways it cost an arm and a leg and lasted for like a month

I had this problem and it only went away after changing to Mobil gas. Also, changed all the coils and MAF. No pinging at all for over one year. Try Mobil

 

I had this problem too, it was my MAF slowly dying on me. The pinging only got worse and I had a new MAF put on...cured.

 

Bad MAF will definately cause ping.

 

I had the same problem on my 2k, I had my coils replaced twice and I put premium gas in it and it fixed it. But like everyone else said it could be the MAF aswell. These are fairly cheap fixes MAF, coils (if under warranty) and obviously won't hurt the car if they aren't the problem. When my 2k was still under warranty I took it to Nissan and left it there for 3 weeks. If they would call me telling me the problem was solved I would test drive it and if it wasn't I would leave it again, demanding that it be fixed. I paid $50.00 for some thousands of dollars in work until they found the problem and got a free rental max fort 3 weeks. If all else fails and it's under warranty go to NIssan and scream, they'll take care of it. You guys might not like that idea but it worked for me.

 

zmac, I am almost certain the problem is with your coils (if you have not had your coils replaced already). If your car is under warranty go get the coils replaced. If not, then do it yourself. It is very easy, and it will cost you less then half of what the dealer will charge you.
