2002 computer with non-oem radio

i can't find the DIY for this thing anywhere. the computer that is controlled by the steering wheel (temperature, distance until empty, mpg...) can be bypassed by grounding a wire and taping the other end off. i remember seeing this posting a month ago, but can't find it. anyone know which wire to splice for this computer to work? thanks

open up center console. look behind radio. find a bunch of harnesses. specifically 2 harnesses that contain a brown wire with a white stripe. 1 is thick and should actually be attached to the current radio as that wire controls the left speaker negative terminal. the OTHER harness which would not be connected to anything contains a THIN brown wire with white stripe as well. cut wire, tap to ground, done...you're welcome.

does that allow you to use the steering controls with an aftermarket HU?

Correct just the trip buttons though. If you want the volume your going to have to buy a adapter piece for that.
