Spring/strut installation question

I don't have the tools to do this on my own. I also don't know anyone around here that can do it for me.

What commercial places can do the installation and what will it cost me? Who should I stay away from?

Local tire places can do it. Install will be around $280 or so with an alignment.

You really don't need many tools to do this. Depending on what you are installing, you could need a spring compressor. If you had the tools, would you do the installation? Or, would you want someone else to do the install anyway?

Simple install. Go to "How to's" by Housecor, he tells you exactly what tools you need. You don't really need that much. You can easily buy or rent what you need for less than $280 and you'll have some of your own tools!

Right, thanks for the input, guys. While I am mechanically inclined, most of my experience is academic in nature. I'm just a little nervous taking on a project like this since it is quite a bit more work than simple preventative maintenance. Maybe it's just the sort of project that will get me started on more complex stuff.

Is this the sort of spring compressor I need? http://www.autobarn.net/rodi/cta4035.html

Yes that is the kind of spring compresor that you will need. You can usually borrow one from Autozone.

Helpful tip if you are doing it yourself - have a freind help you. This freind does not need to be mechanicaly inclined.

Bring it to your local import store and they'll do it. Then again, I'm in SF so these places are everywhere. Got mines installed for $120.
