What do these SES Codes mean?

My service engine light went on last week and I finally got the codes pulled today at Autozone. The codes were:
P0011 - IVT Control (Bank 1)
P0021 - IVT Control (Bank 2)

Can someone tell me in plain english what exactly this means and most importantly is it covered under the powertrain warranty. I have 55K on my 2K2 GLE. Thanks

From my FSM:

This mechanism hydraulically controls cam phases continuously with the fixed operating
angle of the intake valve. The ECM receives signals such as crankshaft position,
camshaft position, engine speed, and engine coolant temperature. Then, the ECM
sends ON/OFF pulse duty signals to the camshaft timing control valve depending
on driving status. This makes it possible to control the shut/open timing of the intake
valve to increase engine torque in low/mid speed range and output in high-speed
range.

Possible problems: INTAKE VALVE TIMING CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE, CRANKSHAFT
POSITION SENSOR, and CAMSHAFT (INTAKE). Hopefully this'll help

Wow that doesn't sound too good. I really appreciate you giving me the info but do you think they'll cover any of that stuff under the powertrain?

I purchase a used max a few weeks ago, and while trying to diagnose what ended up being a MAF sensor, I pulled these same codes. There was no SES light though....

I reset the ECU, and the codes disappeared, never to return....

SHPatel,

If you haven't fixed your recalled item that might be the problem IMO. Look below

Mike

Make : NISSAN Model : MAXIMA Year : 2002
Manufacturer : NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 03V455000 Recall Date : NOV 04, 2003
Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 630000
Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE CIRCUIT BOARD FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR MAY HAVE AN IMPROPER SOLDER JOINT DUE TO SOLDER DEFORMATION CAUSED BY HEAT STRESS ACCELERATED BY THE EXISTENCE OF FLUX RESIDUE DURING THE SOLDERING PROCESS.
Consequence:
THIS COULD CAUSE THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON, CREATE A NO START CONDITION, CAUSE REDUCED ENGINE POWER, OR CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CRANK POSITION SENSORS. VEHICLES INVOLVED IN A PREVIOUS RECALL CAMPAIGN, 01V357, ARE ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS NEW CAMPAIGN. THE REPLACEMENT SENSORS USED IN THAT CAMPAIGN ARE ALSO AFFECTED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON DECEMBER 22, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 OR INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200.
Notes:
NISSAN RECALL NO. R3022/INFINITI RECALL NO. R3021. CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION’S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

SHPatel,

They'll cover all that I mentioned above. If you have the FSM you can check all the
above "Possible problems" mentioned in the previous post using a 12v battery and a
multimeter. This'll save you $95 bones an hour a dealer will charge for diagnostics of
the above systems. Good luck in whatever you do....

No way! We go to the Woodfiled Hooters every Wed night (when it's warm out - not now in the winter) right in your backyard. We're always up to something.

I need some more 5.5 gen representation too. hehe

Alright so I was going to go to the dealer this morning but last night a funny thing happened. My SES light was on and then suddenly went off. When I went to autozone again it didn't pull any codes. Weird huh? Just wondering what you guys think happened. Did my car magically repair itself

Still go to the dealer and have them do the crank sensor recall on your car. You don't want this sucker going out on ya when you are far far away from home. Hooters is da shizzo not manny 5th gens, I am there almost every week when its warm out.

Hey Blackbird, I just called Woodfield Nissan and they said that they already performed the crank sensor recall the last time I was in there. Could the SES sign disappearing be a MAXIMA Miracle

drive monitor inside the ECM must have found a small glitch for a split of a second in your VTC system, it didn't see it reoccur for a set period of time so the ECM cleared its self out. If it comes back on, take it in.

hey guys, that code that was pulled is because of the gas cap, it happen to me before, when you dont tighten your gas cap all the way it comes on, the like 5 days later it just shuts off, thats what happen to my 03 max about a month ago, but my **** came on again after i filled up last week, hopefully mine shuts off soon, because it cost $150 from the dealer just to pull the codes and see whats wrong with it

MaxSE-R,

You're wrong.. The code that SHPatel pulled is exactly what I stated in the
thread. If the code were P0441, P0442, P0444, P0447, P0452, P0453, P0455,
and P0456. You would have gas cap along with various other causes
depending on which code came up.
