Hella Horn Question
Hella Horn Question
Hi, I was just wondering where you guys buy the Hella Horn. How much does it cost? Can the install be done by an amateur like me or should I take it to a shop? Thanks a lot!
It's plug and play. Pretty easy to install. Should cost around $60. Depends where you get it from. There might still be a group deal on it. I gotta get one too. Our horns sound soooo wimpy.

I got mine on the group deal for $60 shipped. And yes, they are WAY louder than stock!! They are very easy to install, they mount to the stock horn positions. They have to be individually grounded, but that is it. Anyone can put these on succesfully.
a dB is a somewhat meaningless term, it refers to no certain level in particular, so it is referenced to whatever the manufacturer chooses, but since no one actually knows what that reference level is, it is very hard to compare a dB level to another companies dB level. however, if you have dBm (which references to 1mW), for example, that will give a clearer picture of the level of the sound. If these horns produced a level of 118dBm, then one could reference that to 1mW and find out the actual power level that this dB level is associated with. hey, you asked and i'm an audio engineer and a electrical engineer! haha
it's actually not...that's one thing that sucks. the car doesn't send out as much voltage to the horn when you lock the car as it does when you're driving and lay on the horn. the horns get exactly 12V across them when you honk the horn, but when the doors lock and the horn beeps, it only peaks at 0.9V. this voltage may have been enough to get a decent beep out of the stock horns, but it is not enough voltage for the hellas. so it is slightly quieter than stock, but i like it....that way not everyone knows i'm walking away from my car haha
Some good info there, I didn't use the relays either. Hella has two sets of the same horns, 113db and 118 there is a price difference and a different Manufacture point as well. You will definitely be pleased w/ the sound.
Look for the ones made in Germany. That's what I have. There are some made in India now.
Unlike a lot of people, I used the relay. Takes a bit more time to install, but I wanted to get the full potoential from these horns. I can't say if there is any db difference using the relay, cause I never hooked them up without it. As mentioned above, make sure you have each horn well grounded....if you don't, they won't make a sound.
