hit a gaurd rail bringing my parents their keys

somehow, my father managed to lock his keys in the car, even though he has keyless entry. so he calls me to come bring them to him up at the store. its been snowing for about 2-3 hours. i start out goin nice and slow, TC on, when at the end of the road it slopes down to another road. as im comin down, i notice a car comin from a side street doesnt appear like he is gonna stop, so i hit my brakes harder than i should. well duh, i start to slide down this hill. i actually managed to avoid the concrete divider thing in the middle, but began to slide into the cross street. a toyota stops to let me slide by, and i watch my car begin to make an intimate relationship with the gaurdrail. THANKFULLY, there is a blacktop curb in front of the rail, which helped a little. i hit the gaurdrail with the passenger side front corner, and the car slid to the side a little.

after swearing a few times, since i had never been in an accident before, i quickly backed up and pulled up and stopped to get out and check the damage. i was expecting a ruined headlight, destroyed front bumper, and god only knows what else. much to my surprise, the headlight, foglight, and parking light were all still on, and the only damage appears to be a major scuff across the corner of the bumper. i can also fit the tip of my pinky finger between the light and the bumper on that side, but there is no gap at all on the drivers side.

oddly enuff, no less than 30 seconds after i moved my car, an older camry came sliding down the hill in the exact same spot and rammed the gaurd rail. there were other cars parked there as well, and on my return trip, there was a cop in that general area, 2 guys talkin and pointing there, but there didnt seem to be any damage to the gaurd rail, haha. my dad even slipped there coming home in his truck. my parents said they would pay to correct the damage, since i had to go out for them, but thats hardly the point. my parents just moved last week, i know they dont need my paint, and possibly bumper replacement, added to the cost. but at the same time, im moving into an apartment and cant really afford this either. i guess i am just dissappointed that i allowed this to happen. im also used to the excellent snow tires my accord had, not these crummy Turanzas (at least they arent Potenzas).

i got by snow and a gaurd rail

Sorry to hear that dude. Thank god you're ok and the damage was minimal. I hate the fact that when you lose control of a car like that. I pressed too hard on my brake pedal one time (don't ask..i'm such an ***) and the rear of the car came out. I did a 720 on a 2 lane highway....$7,000 later in damages...insurance covered that! whew. Anyway, glad to hear you're ok.

thanks guys, yeah im ok, thank God. but as i was sliding, i knew i would be ok, but the whole time i was freakin out about the car. i never had something like that happen before. i looked at the location again today, and the end of the gaurdrail is pushed way back off the street, and the last support is yanked outta the ground. i dont know if that was from me or the camry, but i didnt realize those things were meant to give so much (or maybe they arent, in which case, im still thankful)
