Are you guys communicating telepathically? Dude, what he said was fine with me... there's no need for you to rub it in and sound so arrogant about it.

my light came on with 325 miles on the trip meter, i stopped for gas in NC with 437 miles on it. The car was fine, it took 17.8 gallons, after like 405 i started looking for a station. Usually the light comes on at like 300 and I fill at around 360, it usually takes 16 gallons or so. My mileage hasn't been great lately cuz it idles so much, the max burns so much fuel at idle.

My light usually comes on at 338 (2000 GLE). About two months ago, I kept driving (not thinking that I was heavy on the gas that day) and as I was accellerating up a hill, car sputted, lights on dash came on, & the gas pedal depressed. Tried cranking and nothing. Very scary. I put the flashers on and rolled to level ground; it cranked and I hauled a** to the gas station, which was right around the corner. At this time, I probably was at ummm... 375-380. I do remember my calculations showing 16.9MPG w/ little over 18 gallons filling up.

When the low fuel indicator comes on you have 1.5 gallons of gas left in the tank. So if you are on the highway, you'll probably get about 35-40 miles before your car runs out of gas. If your in the city, you would probably get around 30 miles.

A full tank of gas is 18.5 Gallons.

Keep the heat or A/C off and the windows shut if your low on fuel. Also lets not go crazy with the lead foot.

my light went on the other day just as i was headed to the gas station. the car took about 15.5 gallons. which means i had approx 3 gallons left, avg 20 mpg that means i could have driven for about another 60 miles. all the while the dte light was flashing 36 miles to empty.

No.

However it is recommended that you keep the tank full to prevent condensation or water forming in the gas tank.

Yeh running to motor on "E" is bad... you might suck some residue at the bottom of the tank up into your fuel filter.... Yes it good to know how much we can push the MAX to the limits, but dont do it if you dont have tooo.
JUst my 2 cents.......

i wouldnt let the gas go past 1/4 tank.......why?... because the gasoline is the only thing the cools your fuel pump.

55 miles in nyc, my light goes on with about 4-5 gallons, the tank in a 01 is 18.5 or something, I fill up full tank at about 14 or so which gives about 4.5 left in the tank which will give you a lot of miles left in the gas. but hey dont try that too much just fill up its the same thing either way your not putin more money in the car by filling up 1/3 of the way or when the light comes on its the same gas no different. But just do an experiment fill it up one day and see how long you can drive with the car untill the light comes on then push that a little and see when you fill up how much was left by the difference from the last fill up.

Average Cars Like American Cars Give You A Low Gas Warning Like When You Have About 2-3 Gallons. The Max Gives You The Warning Much Sooner For Some Reason. Its Not A Big Deal It Just Means You Know You Have About 4-5 Gallons Left In You Tank.
