changing Tranny oil in the morning
changing Tranny oil in the morning
what hose from the radiator do I need to remove. I'm doing the full flush w/o droping the pan. Can someone post a pic so I can do this project in the morning. Thanks
I got all the parts... so this weekend the car is having a transmission oil replacement....... hopefully everything will go ok... and no trannu slipping after is done....
Hey Lontar1, you mind taking some pictures and doing a small DIY step by step when you doing it this weekend, I want to do it also but am confused as to what to do. I read about it but some pictures would be nice, How bolts do you need, and i think its 10 quarts of ATF right? also could you also take a picture of which hose to unplug to do the flush, Thanks

I did this a couple of months ago. Make sure you measure what initially gets drained from the pan. Mine ended up draining around 6.5qts just out of the pan. In the sticky under the fluids and lube forum, it said you would get around 4.5qts out. Also, you will need exactly 21 pan bolts. These pan bolts only get torqued to 6 ft-lbs. This is a pretty low torque. Pretty simple, just a little messy. My pan was filthy and the fluid was burnt, I wouldn't doubt it if yours is too. You'll be glad you did it when you get done. The hose you need to disconnect, you can't miss it. It's short hose that goes from the driver's side bottom of the radiator to the tranny. MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT IT FROM THE TRANNY SIDE. Try and have someone helping out. The hose is a pain to try and aim into a container.
I didn't see any real improvement in the shifting. But I'm still trying to convince my dealer there is a problem. I still have a delayed downshift from 2nd to 1st when I floor it. Even if it doesn't improve this, it will improve the life of the tranny.

I'll buy the bolts in the morning and the 2 extra q of oil....
Thanks guys.. wish me luck
Good luck Lontar. It's very simple to do. After you get the hose off and hooked up to the extra hose and into the drain pan, thats really all you need. You can hook up the return to your fresh oil, but I found it's easier (and less messy) to just pump out 2 quarts and put 2 quarts back in via the dipstick. Hope that helps.
Ok I started doing the Tranny oil change... Damn.. the oil is dirty BIG TIME and smell like crap..... I'm taking pics and will do a write up on it .... so expect the write up and pics on Sunday............
The reason why you need new tranny pan bolts is that there is a sealant attached to the bolts. When you remove the old ones, this seal is broken on those bolts. The factory service manual even states to replace the bolts when you drop the pan. Can you reuse them, yes. But why not get new ones when they're so cheap. Just a little extra piece of mind to make sure your tranny doesn't develop a leak. And yes, there are 21 bolts holding the pan in place.
