Car seemed to pull slightly to the right when I got it (with summer tires) Recently put on snows, car seems to pull even more(after balance). Also notice a bit of vibration on the snows above 120kmh(DUnlop wintersport m2). Also car pulls more right during accellaration vs coasting. Allignment?

Another question. For steel wheels for the winter tires, is going hubcentric really neccessary for the mas as I can get cheaper wheels that are not hubcentric. Thanx.

 

Pulling right during acceleration is def the magnificent torque steer common to 5th gen's. An alignment should help pulling during cruising.

Do not get wheels that aren't hub centric (only get hubcentric). It puts all the weight/force onto the wheel studs. It's not exactly safe.

 

I dont think it is an issue of torque steer as it happens during mild accelration during cruising highway speeds.

As for hubcentric wheels, even for winter tires it is unsafe?

 

tq steer is only on hard acceleration..

i went and had my wheels balanced and got an alignment and i dont have the problem any more so try that, its not like it costs that much

 

There is a TSB that applies to our cars as listed below.. My 02 has been plagued with the same problem since I purchased it, except it pulls to the left on the highway, and the steering wheel isn't in line with the direction of the wheels over 55mph. I have 34k on my Max and brand new Nitto NT tires installed before I purchased the car, so I don't believe tires or balancing is the issue. Right now I can only assume that the TSB might factor into this problem.

If it happens during mild acceleration then it's not torque steer. I don't know what it is then. Sorry.

 

alignment and/or mechanical damage. bad tires and wrong tire pressure can do it as well.

 

well whatever it is, i think its happening to me too. i just had mine aligned not too long ago too.
