DDE Problems...
Hey guys,
I just finished installing my DDEs last night, and I also wired them up to a switch as per housecor's instructions. I was really happy with them last night for a few hours, when they were working. But the I noticed that the high-beam ring on the driver's headlight had stopped working. So I figured, I'll play around with it tomorrow. So I took a look at it today and I found that now the high-beam ring was working just fine, but the low-beam ring wasn't working. So I took the dust-cap off and unscrewed the top two headlight bolts. I started moving the wires going to that ring around a little bit, and the ring began to light up a little bit more, but still not really working. The other headlight also had one ring partially out, but it eventually came on, so I guess I can attribute this to "cold start-up issues." Here are some pics of the current situation.

Now I know that this could be either a bad ring or bad ballast. But what aggrivates me is that everything was working when I tested the rings (before even putting them in the headlights) and last night after I finished the installation. So any take on what this might be? Thanks guys, I really appreciate it.

if its really cold there, which it prolly is right now in NJ, i would bet that its just that..they even state that they have some trouble in the cold..but the way you described it kind of makes it sound like loose wiring, because you said when you played with it a little it came on...
turn on your headlights and let it warm up for 5 mins or so, and if it still doesnt turn on play with the wire of the ddes.....if it turns on....do the hardwire option if you already havent. if you did do the hardwire way then double check your connection. I myself thought i burnt out a ring about 5 or 6 times, half were cold start and the other half was the fact that i didnt hardwire. plus drill a hole for the dde wire instead of passing it threw the HID cap, it wont damage them, but make sure to glue the hole again.
Check the connections. If it was a bad ballast both rings on one side would be out. My driver side high beam ring is now having cold start-up issues and it at least lights up purple. From your pics it looks like it is not lighting up at all.
Actually, if you look at the upper-right corner of the non-lit ring, you can see that it lights up just a little bit. When I looked at it really close-up, it looked like it was flickering very lightly. Here is a blow up of that part of the ring, which is barely lit.
based on what you've said and the pictures it looks like you should re-check your wiring from the ballast to the rings. when putting on the dust cap it's easy to loosen up the splice or damage the wire. the slow start up when cold usually affects all of my rings.
if all your connections are secure then it's likely the ballast. you could also try swapping the ballast from the other side to confirm if it's the ring or the ballast. good luck, the dde's are very nice when working.

This happens all the time to me. One ring doesn't light up even after the rest do. This might not work for you, and is kind of a pain (but I'm lazy..don't want to bother trying to solve the actual problem) but just turn them on/off a couple times. It works for me

This one is definitely not a cold issue for me. I drove around for about 20 minutes last night and the one ring was still not working, while the other three were nice'n'bright. And when you guys resolve this issue, will you be sending out new ballasts to those who currently have DDEs or just putting them in the newly shipped products? Thanks.
this happened to me last month. i was water-proffing the ballast and i noticed flickering. before i go into details, did you open the ballast??? check the blue splice. that can also cause that...

No cold issues here, but I had a similar problem with one of my rings. I tried everything, and what finally fixed the problem was to simply switch the 2 wires of the dim ring with the 2 wires of the ring which was lit up normally. Still cant explain y this worked...but it did.
My current problem that i broke the tab which holds down the HID bulb retainer wire. So, PLEASE BE CAREFUL REINSTALLNG THE HID BULB. Unfortuanely, this little metal clip is not a replaceable part. I had to buy an entire headlight housing.....thank God for Ebay.....got one for $31 and its on the way!
Good luck.
