i saw this on a show the other day. you can press down on the hood or trunk and if it feel excessivly soft or if it bounces too much ten they could be weak also if you have lost of body rool then they could be bad also they do kindo go after a certain millagee , which i dont know but i am sure ou can call a suspension shop and thay might be able to give you an idea. if you are going to replace the OEM i suggest tokico illumina's

rule of thumb is get the car bouncing by pushing it down by hand, let it go when its at the bottom, it should come up, go down, then up, then settle. if it does any more than that, replace them

Did you two read his post? The struts are out of the car!

How many miles on them phatOne? I'd say they are probably shot, but in any case, if the struts are already out, go ahead and replace them anyway.

to check it struts are good when out of a car press all the way down on the strut itself, if the strut is hard to press down on and you need to use force then they are good, however if they go easy and no froce or effort then they are bad and need to replaced. if the mileage on them is over 60k+ might aswell just change them because they will go at about 75-90 why bother doin all that work again.

another thing to note is the struts must come back up after you push them down

sorry not to familar with the maxima yet just bought my car last month, but you have to make sure the struts go back correctly and the right side is on the right side you must not switch or mix the struts.... if you do that will cause a big difference in your ride.
