Call me the R&D department:

I'm no mechanic or car whiz, but would it be possible for stillen or someone else to make a hood scoop for the maxima. Nothing crazy, I'm talking about a scoop like the new subaru turbos have. I suppose a guy with a shop could make one out of the stock hood, but it would probably be better for us if the whole hood was replaced. Would a scoop be significantly better than the set-up we have now, how about compared to the oscai? The way I figure is that the oscai is sticking out of the hood with a scoop, so there would be a ram air affect. Is this feasible? It would probably cost a bundle. later...

You'd have to do all sorts of fancy stuff like re-routing plumbing for the intake and everything. I doubt you'd see significant gains over a PR CAI or OSCAI that would make the money worth it.

Have you guys seen the Shelby Dodge Durango. It has two small scoops on the hood. Maybe like 3" around. Maybe this would benefit the Pop and Stillen intakes, by getting fresh cooler air into the engine compartment. Hmmmm would help for us people in high altitude in the summer time!

I agree with punkdork, it would take a lot of work to make it functional...plus, I am not a huge fan of big hood scoops....

They don't have to be "big" hood scoops. Some are reverse scoops (inverse) which don't provide any drag. I'm not sure how a scoop would look on a Maxima, though.

He is simply implying more air would get into the engine compartment. He is not saying he wants his Maxima to have a true Ram Air setup, like the old muscle cars of the late 60's.

That sounds like he's looking for a decent sized front facing scoop... just my take on it...

A good can opener from your kitchen could be used to make a quick "inverse" scoop.

Well, if you look at what the WRX's scoop does, it would do nothing for a Max. The scoop goes down on the Intercooler. The scoop on the other Impreza's go nowhere.

If you look at the recent OSCAI threads some people are talking about putting scoop type collectors in the lower part of the bumper to get a ram-air effect.

But if you really want to have fun you should try putting either the cone filter through the hood or try making some sort of 'shaker' hood like you found on 426s.
