Just got back from dealer regarding P0420....

Bob Moore Nissan here in Norman has told me that they will replace the cat after I took it in with the P0420 code. I had no problems with them trying to charge me for anything as they agreed it was covered under the 8yr/80k mile warranty. They had to order the part today and it should be in first thing next week -- when they will fix it.

However, they did tell me that the right outside CV boot is ripped and is leaking (never have seen a leak or a problem until they mentioned it today) and said it would cost 220 to fix. I said no thanks and told them that I would get it fixed on my own. I will probably post another thread asking for help (or how difficult) in replacing this boot.

Overall, I am happy that Bob Moore gave me no flack. They get an A today.

You might wanna post this in the Dealer/Vendor experiences forum, but still good to hear you had a positive experience!

whats the build date on your 01 AE? I hope they actually tested to see what ecu version you have with the consult II before replacing your cat cause you'll still get the code otherwise.

a boot repair kit from nissan costs around 40-50 bucks. Which side axle is it

I dont know the build date off the top of my head but I do know that the boot needing to be repaired is the "right outside" (what they told me).

Just check it to make sure it's torn. Sometimes there will be grease flung inside your wheel well after your CV boot tears. When I replaced the boots on my 92, they came from Carquest because they were thicker rubber than the OEM boots.

is there something one can do to prevent the boot from cracking ( from temp veriantions)...will it help if we regularly grease it up?

Hey Larrio, after reading through several other threads, would it be easier to just replace the whole axle instead of screwing with the boot?

Only way that a front B1 cat is being replaced is if the reprogram has been done, and oxygen sensors monitored w/ alpha readings for each bank.

The problem is a cat failure, the new parameters for the reprogram vs readings = outside parameters

Replace B1 Pre cat, front pipe.(basically what a Y Pipe is considered.)
Thats for 420

430 = B2, manifold pre cat on front of vehicle.

Repairing the boot is not that bad, I've done it for another .org member in NY on my lift at the dealership in under an hour.
Tried on the floor with jack stands, and no air tools, never again. 3hrs+

ya, problem is that I have no access to a lift -- just jacks and jack stands, lol. I can't afford 220 dollars right now to get this done at the dealer, so I will have to figure something out. I guess I won't be getting that ypipe now.
