Putting OEM Navigation into a non Navi 5.5 Gen

This has probably been asked before but I cant find any threads on it. Is it possible to get the 5.5 gen Navi into a 5.5 gen without Navi? Also, can you get the climate control to work?

Thanks and I apologize if this has already been covered.

Mike

this has been asked a lot....you can get the navi in and working but no you cannot get the climate controls to work...the cost to do this far outweighs the benefits so if you really need a navi get a garmin or something.

I have the navi in my car and nissan is replacing it right now because of the leds on the side burnt out, and the cost is 4k. Thank God it is under warranty and the dealer and guys that work there kick a$$ (maximusprimus). So its not worth doing, put in an after market one.

I don't think it's worth adding a CD based Navi. Its not worth the hassle trying to get everything to work properly. Is going aftermarket not an option? Its definitely cheaper to go that route.

Someone on here actually tried this but found it was way too complicated especially trying to get the climate control to work. I can't think of his name though, he had pics and everything but than decided it was either too hard to do, or incompatible with his current setup.

Yea, don't waste your time/money w/ an OEM Navi. There are plenty of nice AM units that will save you headaches.

Know how you feel, having the same problem right now, personally it think it is one of the dumbest designs i have ever seen. had my car in last week because the Econ and and the Auto button fell out, got the same price, $3700 but thankfully still under 36k miles so i have no worries, nissan can swallow 4 grand, not me.. (sorry did not figure out how to use quote button till now)

Save yourself a lot of time, headaches, and $$ and deep six the idea! Otherwise, if you decide to try it, make sure you buy stock in Advil before you start (and let us know so we can buy stock too) cause it's sure to go up by the time you're done!!

Take a look at the Pioneer AVIC-N1. This is the one I'm thinking about getting. All the goodies, plus navi.

I have dealt with Don before... I like the Pioneer unit but I would rather not have a "flip out" unit. I think im going to go for the Eclipse unit.

Hey Don...
I picked up a 2003 Maxima a while back... I will probably be giving you a call in a few months to install the eclipse avn-2454 unit. Do you recommend this unit?

Thanks,
Mike

I definately do recommend it, although it will be discontinued shortly and replaced with the newer '05 AVN5435 and AVN5495, hence the reason for the price drop on the current one

Just the lights under the buttons around the display....the screen works fine.

with the cost of labor and cost of navi, you can just get a pioneer or eclipse lcd dvd player.

I was planning to go with a Kenwood DDX7015 and KNA-DV4100. But now I may need to reconsider the Eclipse, since it's prices hundreds less.

Even with pricing aside, Eclipse > Kenwood

For real?? I thought Kenwood was one of the best on the aftermarket. (I'm a novice when it comes to ICE.)

Kenwoods constantly break, I send back more of them than any other 3 brands combined. With that being said Eclipse has been the leader, especially in HUs for years by the true audiophiles out there. Just an overall better product in just about every aspect. Unless of course flashy pictures appeal to you. Of course does not affect SQ in any way, quite the opposite..it lacks it typically.

To add to that Eclipse offers a 3 year warranty as well as theft replacement guarantee should your HU ever get stolen within the first year of owning it. No other company offers either of these.

BTW...you may get more/better responses in the A/V/E section

I disagree a bit. Eclipse may be better, but I've had my DDX7015 + Navi for over a year and I've had Kenwood headunits prior to that, and I've NEVER had a problem with any of them. My DDX has a 2 year warranty, but obviously not theft.

Im not trying to imply that all of Kenwood is bad, but from Experience of selling them regularly they have a horrible comeback rate for defects. Im glad yours works well for you. But when dealing with them in volume Vs one person/product the stats are gonna differ a bit.

Keep in mind as well..FujitsuTen parent company of Eclipse has been around for decades prior to Kenwood. Theres a ton of R&D into their product and alot less into marketing. Kenwood is a highly marketed brand, and is sold Everyone. Eclipse has very tight restrictions on their sales otherwise they would be whored out everywhere as well.

Agreed. I do agree that Eclipse is a better product/manufacturing than the others. I just wouldn't want to sway anyone's decision due to personal opinion. You, for one, just states the facts and I respect that. Others just push products even though they have had no experience with other brands. People will say Kenwoods suck, but they've never owned one. You're an installer, so you would know. Personally, I hate the way Pioneers look and probably would never buy one, but I won't push my opinion to anyone else. Know what I mean?
