And I miss it. I am wondering if anyone knows if i could install one on my car... I have not seen any products out there that do it... but if you know of any, please post.

On my acura, not only did it have my average mpg, but it had my "current" mpg too. So if you stomp on the gas, it would dip down to 3-5 mpg and if your just crusing, obviously the mpg would up. I miss this feature. I was thinking that since we already have a MPG calculator, then it should not be too hard to wire in a new unit to display this.

any thoughts? any products out there? thanks.

What? The 6th gens have this? I had no idea. Is it inside your gauges, or do you have it in a seperate display? Your gauge pod is a diffrent size isn't it..

 

no, he means an actual mpg reading, not the overall mpg that comes in his car also...

our cars don't have an actual mpg reading display aside from the overall mpg one..

in the 6th gens we have a seprate screen that shows this info.. is not in the pod like in the 5th gens...

(eigther that or I don't know my car well enough)

I doubt it'll work for you. He has a 6th gen. (e.g. reference to pods and separate screen)

our display is the sheet. there is a MPG button. it averages since the last time hit. If you want current MPG just reset it.

We have 2 trip computers that displays duration, average speed, miles on the same info screen. We can adjust the headlight auto on sensitivity setting and shut off timer, Speed Sensitive Volume and Wipers, doors auto lock, lights/horns settings and how many locks work with keyfob, seat and wheel entry/exist assist on/off, and others I can't recall. The few you guys have can be set by the dealer.

sorry this doesn't help you much with your 5th Gen. unless of course it entices you to upgrade. I love both Gens, but had to go for all the extra features.

 

well, we have that mpg feature in our cars too... What i want is a gauge that consistantly refreshes its self to show what your mpg you are getting at that very momnet... and still also have my average mpg gauge as well. maybe i am too picky.

 

sorry I mislead you, we do have a "trip" and a "fuel econ" buttons...... "trip" gives you a avg. mpg for your trip... that would be the actual.... the "fuel econ" gives you a general mpg in total. is that what you are looking for..

trip won't reset itself though....

nope, thats not it either. lol... I feel like an A$$. sorry guys, let me try to explain this alittle better.

say I am driving down this road in 5th gear, going 45mph. I look at my dash, and I see (what I want to get installed) a device that shows *32.5 MPG. I look up, and I see a brand new mustang cobra approching at a fast rate of speed in my rear view. I downshift to 2nd gear and readline it, and slam it in to 3rd and chrip my tires, and start pushing my RPM's to the limit. I look down again at the device I want, and it reads *1.2 MPG. I then step on the clutch, bang it into 4th, and I wave bye bye to the cobra. Now, I slow back down to 45, and i am back in 5th gear, and i look back down at the device i want, and it shows *32.5 MPG again.

the above event is pure fiction. lol.

yea this is what I though, there is an overall mpg which we all have. but you want a display that tell you how you are doing at that point in time.

a realtime MPG meter, thats what youre looking for, i've only seen taht in Bimmers, doubt ther eis any way we can get one..

actually, neither 5.5 or 6 gen have a CURRENT gauge. Both update on a 30 second basis (this is per the ESMs)

 

Aren't "real time MPG" readouts based on manifold vacuum?

 

yes, if they calibrate the manifold vac to a certain MPG. The nissan one uses it too, but samples once every 30 sec.

 

no most POS GM's have it also....my friends tahoe has it and my friends GMC Sierra has it...(i think their cars have this function also)...and a lot of fords have it, like my dads expedition...i dont think its that accurate, though, because if your cruising and it says 22.5 or so on a trip and at the end you calculate it yourself, it ends up being like 18....so i dont really pay too much attention to those kind of things
