found this in BITOG .....
in taking a high end pleated 3M filter, cutting & refilling the gasket edges maybe with some silicone or hot melt glue. I'm thinking the worst (likley) that could happen is some dust will leak around the edges, but otherwise would capture +75% of the dirt.
OR
alternatly, the idea of a custom built alum frame. This is probably like the filters on your kitchen exhaust fan - IMO, not very effective (probably rattles too). But, there is hope. How about taking this and wrapping it in 3M's hammock style filter, it's also electrostaically charged & would provide a snugger fit.
Thoughts?
I'm going to try this when it warms up.

All the major filter manufacturers list cabin filters. Finding stock can be something of a problem.
You might want to take a look at it. I paid around $20 for a replacement cabin filter for a Toyota Camry. After I replaced it I took a good look at it. I stopped by the hardware store and bought a 3M high efficiency 20x25 furnace filter, the kind that is a white paper-like material.
The next filter for the Toyota I cut out of the furnace filter. Fit fine.
There's enough material there for six filters. Cost me about $12.

I have an 03 Corolla S with a cabin filter. After pricing one at the dealer (the only one available)for $42, I went to my local HVAC air filter shop. They made me a washable lifetime one in a nicely welded aluminum frame for $18. That was 3 years ago. I take it out and was it every 2-3 months...works great.
It's a metal mesh with a fiber pad overlay. Screen on both sides of that.
