Other Brake kits on an 02?

Ok well first off I want a brake kit for autox, track racing and well they looks so damn cool, however i dont feel like spending 2k. I found STi Brembo, 350Z Brembo and Evo Brembos on ebay. I was wonder if they would fit a 5th gen at all or if anyone has done this? Plus anyone know anything about the SE-R Brakes on the new Altima?

First off stay away from the s--t on ebay...brembo doesn't make rotors for our car yet (according to their catalog). Second you should dig through the other threads...there are several on this subject.

Try this one to get some answers.

The SE-R brakes are identical to the 04 Max, and both will bolt on to the 00-03 Max with zero mods. SE-R calipers have a flat surface on which the logo is printed, and of course are painted silver. No other difference.

Are you sure? What are you basing this on? Just don't want to buy em and have issues. Did you see this thread a few days ago?

Thanks for your input.

We have many different brake kits available from Precision Brakes.com at our website. I had one on my car and it was very good and very reasonable. We have powdercoat the calipers any color you want for $50 and get many different pads as well. Contact me if you would like more information at shop@frankencar.com

Steve, the links for the big brake kits on your site don't go anywhere.

I saw that thread, yes. I even posted several times.

I am basing this on the fact that I installed the 04 Max brakes on my 98. I have no pics or plans to post any. Too much trouble. So I understand your apprehension. All I can tell you is that it works. Nissan is very good about stretching out its engineering resources. Take for instance that the same size brake pads are used on the front calipers of the 89-03 Max and the 93-05 Altima. Quite a broad range, wouldn't you say? So it is not a stretch to see the probability of interchange.

I think that 300zx calipers look very nice. I will buy an old caliper and ask my friend who works in the machine shop to make me an adapter for a 13" rotor and 300zx caliper. I will update you if it succeeds....or fails

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of all that...seems a little ridiculous that Nissan wouldn't update their brakes in 14 years, as far as rotor size and pad surface area. The cars have gotten larger, they've given us extra HP but no bigger brakes??!! Damn Nissan.

You mean like this? 300z calipers on 3-4 gens have been out for years. There even one 5th gen running my brackets with success.

Actually, I did not mean to say that the entire brake system remained the same all those years.

The front rotor size (diameter and thickness) has steadly kept pace with the weight/horsepower increase on the Altima/Max, but not until the 04 Max did the pad area increase. That is what makes the 04 rotors/pads such an attractive upgrade for the older models. They were designed for the heavier, more powerful A34 model.

The rears stayed the same, but there were changes in the fronts for the 5.5 gen. And then again for the 6th gen.

Most definitely improved. Seat of the pants of course, and I have ABS also.

Locking the brakes up on a hard stop on dry pavement - no skidding. I'm no engineer, but I don't feel a problem with front/rear bias.
