Question to VQ35DE owners and "service engine soon" light.

My '01 Pathfinder just threw the "service engine soon" light again (once a year it seems, since 2 years ago). Anyone know how I can pull the codes without taking it to dealer? The previous times I took it to the dealer, they said that there were NO codes in the ECU, and they charged me $255 per incident to reset the damn light...

I found a method to pull codes using the gas pedal on the VQ35 Altima, but I've tried it and it doesn't seem to work.

I really would appreciate it if anyone can help me not waste $255 to get this light off...

I know, but if you would believe it, they don't have an Autozone near where I live. The nearest one is listed at Bronx NY, and I live in NJ.

Most of those types of places do it. My SES light has been on for 3 years...maybe you don't need to worry about it?
