Manual transmission w/auto ECU?

Will a manual tranny on a 2002 work with a 2002 auto ECU?

If so, would it be a disadvantage compared to the manual ECU?

I thought it had been done on a 2k...

I have the choice between a 2002 Auto ECU (250$) and a 2003 Manual ECU (350$). Canadian money. Did they fix the hesitation TSB by 2003's (I know they haven't on 2002's)?

the 2k ECU has the same architecture as the 4th gen ecu. Its very fuzzy logic. The 5.5 gen ecu is VERY specific about auto or manual. The auto ones have sections that the manuals do not and vice versa. Also, if the car had TCS, a standard auto ECU will not work either. Its a huge PITA.

Well it looks like I'll be shelling out the extra hundred. Canada sucks for used car parts.

Do you think the ECU is specific to whether it's 5-speed or 6-speed (I am well aware that 2002-2003 never had 5-speeds). I'm asking because the same model years, the VQ35DE Altimas had 5-speed manuals rather than 6sp.

Altima ECU and Maxima ECU are totally different from one another. The altima has an architecture more similar to the 04 max.

Seems like 2k2-2k3 max owners got shortchanged a bit...

I know it's highly likely that no one ever bothered to look at this, but would the 2k2 maxima wiring harness work with the 2k2 Altima ECU? If the difference is only totally different "tuning"...
