Rattles? Squeaks? I wish I only had rattles and squeaks during the cold weather. When the temperature fell to minus 13 one morning, I started my car to warm it up and I turned my fan on to the first notch (1). You should have heard the sound..... the sound was reminiscent of one of those new years eve party favors that you put in your mouth. It tends to go away when the car warms up. The fan blower noise makes sort of a humming noise that is annoying in cold weather and it comes and goes all the time when driving. I have to throw it on fan speed 4 to make the fan noise get drowned out by the blowing air. Dunno if I need a new blower motor or what?
Also when it gets this cold, the clutch and shifter are hard to engage. The shifter feels like a screwdriver in a bucket of cement. I hate winter.
And I dread ever going back to the stealership to fix that stupid fan. My 44k mile max is acting up more than my old 94' Altima with 166 thousand miles on it.

Oh yeah, its been from the -teens at night to the +teens in the day for the past few weeks here...good snowstorm too. This morning when I got outta work it was -10, and a wind chill of -20. Definitely have the squeaks and rattles and I always warm it up when its this cold. I also notice the tranny slipping at these temps, until it warms up a bit...might bring it in for that TSB soon. The thing I notice most is the freaking potholes doing a number on my struts! Bang bang...hate that sound, but with 74k on em I'm sure they've seen better days...just sound worse in this cold. My gas guage doesn't work until the car warms up and the electric window motors get really slow in this cold. I notice my window vent/visors make some rattle noises too, along with the ice stuck to the body here and there. I don't mind at all..I love winter!

For dashboard rattles and squeaks I've found that generous amounts of vinyl protectant sprayed into the crevasses(sp?) of the separate dash pieces seem to help. Just a thought that works for me.

-25 Celcius in Moncton, NB
The bother for me isn't necessarily the squeaks and rattles, I'm more worried about what sounds like bad CV joints. Lately, when my car is cold and I turn left or right and accelerate, it sounds like I have bad CV joints. With my car having only 54,000 kilometers (33,000 miles), this really worries me. Anyone else have a similar problem?
Also, last week it was so cold that my outside temp guage went to -26 or -27 and then "-------" appeared. Does anyone know if the outside temp guage stops reading at a particular temperature?

cwc 412, Yours is probably bad as my 2002 had a bad pass cv boot at only 31k miles and almost all the grease had been slung out. The dealer had the nerve to tell me nothing was wrong as long as it wasn't "torn". I waited a whole day to have it replaced to come back the next day because it hadn't been done. Stupid Nissan service writers must not get paid much commission for warranty work.
