Black tail light question...

I saw an AE maxima at the dealer the other day and it had the black tail lights. Is it me, or are the AE black tails slightly different, than the black ones you'd see, say, on a 2000 SE? It seems the black part is a bit more transparent than a 2000 SE would be? Any input on this?

i havent noticed this before...but then again, ive only seen an AE up close once....it could have been the lighting however...for example, on a sunny day, the black tails appear to be a bit more transparent than on a cloudy day...
