4th gen to 5th gen next week!

Hey I am a 4th gen maxima driver right now, a 97 gxe. In the next few weeks I am going to be buying a 5th gen or 5.5 gen maxima. My only question is should I go auto or spend the time to look for 5 speed or 6 speed...Its hard cause I want black on black lether 5 speed..there extremely hard to find, and at one dealer they have (2) 2001 sterling mist SE maximas Auto, black cloth, and the other tan cloth, with low miles....help me guys and i look foward to joining the 5th gen family!
Thanks,
-Jim-

I did the search for you in autotrader for your ZIP code. These cars are within 300miles from that ZIP and are manual transmissions

Get the auto then... I had a stick before and miss it sometimes, but I really like the auto in the max. I would have gotten leather and heated seats, but your right they are so hard to find. I was in your same position and I just took this one because of the low miles which are hard to find as well.

those cars are extremley hard to find, and when you find it you will be over paying for it

scott honda in westchester has a black on black 6 speed with high mileage 52k, and they probably still have it because they are charging an arm and a leg for it

check out carvision.com too

ur prolly gonna have to take a road trip to find one, but its worth it, i love my new 2k2

I guess you have your answer on which transmission you want. The link above has both private and dealers with manual transmissions. It looks like your going to have to travel if you want a manny tranny. Here's a decent one if your willing to travel 82 miles to get there http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...=en&cardist=82

Use the powersearch feature, you can select which transmission you want. Your lucky, you actually get 3 pages full of manny tranny's. Over in my area, I'm lucky to even get a full page

One thing I've learned is not to settle. It took me a while to find my 6 speed. Auto's are everywhere, if you don't have bumper to bumper traffic then try the stick. Check all the web sites daily. Good luck.

<-- Black on Black SE 6-spd... It took me about 2 months to find one near me... I am sure there are plenty around the U.S. In my opinion the Manual tranny cars are worlds funner than the autos but it depends on your taste. To each his own. All I really have to say is that you are probably spending a good amount of money on this car... just make sure you get what you really want.

definitly go for the stick shift. you won't regret it. I searched forever for a black on black manual and couldn't find one, eventually settled on a loaded 5-speed black with tan leather, loaded. Have been extremely happy with it though I still with I had the black interior, especially in the winter when the tan gets all dirty

Darn, just did a 200 mile search around Dallas and only found 1, but with cloth interior. I would go on every single search engine and see what you find. Have you tried carmax? They will ship the car to you.

Definately don't settle! I flew to Dallas from NH to get mine and drove 1991 miles back...definately worth it! The maany cars IMO are easier to drive in the snow (I frequently start in second when it's snowing) and they're definately faster! Good luck in your search and let us know what you get etc.

Definately wait and get the 6-speed. Im glad I did. I shopped for 6 months and ended up paying more that if I would have just gotten an auto, but I also got exactly what I wanted; Silver with black leather, manual. I used cars.com and autotrader.com because they have an "Advanced Search" which allows you to narrow your search to "manual and leather." I ended up finding mine at a local Nissan Dealership. Also, keep an eye out for 5.5 Gen. maximas on the forum for sale. Best of luck...

It's good to know my car's in demand! I've got a black on black leather SE, with manual. I scoured the internet for a few weeks before one came up locally. If you're going to have the car for a lfew years, why settle for what you don't want?

Get the manual tranny. It is far more robust than the automatic, can be upgraded by just buying a better clutch for a coupla hun, and even if you break it (unlikely) it isn't too expensive to fix.

Unless you're a girl who can't shift gears....then get the auto.

stick is better for snow, cuz u can control the gears

try it, roll down a hill in 4th gear... then down shift into 3rd or 2nd and leave ur foot off the gas, the car slows itself down, you have more control over everything

the only thing that was tricky for me in the snow is that i was letting off the clutch too fast and heavy on the gas so my tires would spin

but thats only cuz ima newb

You can't go wrong with a blk/blk leather 6-speed. Best combo out there - i don't care what anyone says! (personal bias)
