Supporting Engine During Motor Mount Install Question...

My Energy Suspension engine mounts should arrive this week, so I am trying to tie up some loose ends first.

I have a good press and torch to remove old mounts from sleeves.
I also have access to an engine hoist.
I also have all of the tools necessary to do the install.
Finally I have the FSM for torque values.

My only area I am not sure about is in supporting the engine during the install. I have a copy of the factory service manual and it mentions front and rear engine slingers. Essentially they are brackets that bolt to the engine where you have an attachment point to hold with the engine hoist. Do I need to order these from Nissan or is there a way to support the engine with a sling or such where I will not crush something or break something off?

If someone could give me a detailed idea of how to do this, I would greatly appreciate it!!

I recently installed engine mounts and I just let the engine be supported by the side mounts. I didn't drive anywhere and it was only like that for a few hours but I don't think it would hurt it.

I've always jacked by the oil pan (on other cars) but that can cause damage if you don't pad it right.

If you feel like taking the hood off, I would bring it up with the hoist, then get a jack with padding under the pan for insurance while you're working in there.

I've seen engine hoists fail a lot more than I've seen jacks fail.

FOr this to be easy and safe, use one of these

I used a 3 ton floor jack and a block of wood under the tranny case to support the engine for the 1.5 hours it took to install my PR mounts.

That's what I'm doing, jack up by the tranny... though I dunno if it'll make it difficult to install the bolts with the tranny raised like that, I guess I could always lower it onto the side mounts before installing the mount brackets.

I installed the subframe bushings already, and I used the tranny jack point and it worked pretty well.

Yeah you jack up the tranny/oil pan while doing the install but my jack is already starting to fall.
