cattman headers

ok guys i need u guys 2 fix the confusion i got on this.....i wanna get cattman headers becuz i wanna do my exhaust. i read that some ppl says 2 get cattman headers cuz u gain from 17-26 hp. then some say dont get it becuz u will bearly have backpressure, ull have no low end power and you will lose power so they say get a y pipe and cattback....
wtf should i do.....all i want is more power and a 350z/g35 sound

I think the G35 sound sort of comes from the Hotshot headers and a frankencar catback.

Read the FAQ's about back-pressure.

You actually gain thruought the RPM band. Whoever said you lsoe low end in a 5.5g w/ headers, hasn't seen dynos.

If you have a stock cat-back, it sounds like a quieter version of the 350Z/G35.

Dyno

Peak #'s aside, there is a constant gain in power all over the place.

I just ordered my Cattman Headers yesterday night. I am trying to set-up a dyno session before and after I get them put on. I'll post the results if the place can get me in. I always thought you wanted no backpressure with high-horsepower applications.

I've decided to save for headers instead of getting a y-pipe, but I am having a hard time with one aspect of the installation.

I hear some people talking about relocating the O2 sensors since headers remove the precats. This makes sense, because if the stock O2 sensor locations are before and after the precat, then the sensors will need to be relocated so that they are before and after the main cat (the only cat remaining after a header install).

I hear other board members pushing the idea that you shouldn't even bother with O2 sensor relocation. They recommend O2 sensor simulators. One guy justified the use of simulators by saying that relocating the sensors will still result in a Check Engine light, since the emissions hitting the second sensor will be "dirty" until the car warms up.

I want to do two things. First, I want to make sure I don't throw an error code. Second, I want to be able to pass an emissions test. Here in GA, we can usually drive up to an emissions testing center and get in line to be tested, so having the car warmed up isn't a problem. Do any of you guys who already have headers have any input on the simulator/sensor relocation issue?

Thanks NmexMAX. I was about to post that. Also. On the O2 sensors. There are some people that have no problems with the o2 relocations. and some people get CEL lights as soon as they install it. Getting o2 simulators will save some headache and its about the same cost of getting o2 simulators and installing bungs for the 02 sensors.

Fezzik, what did you do when you installed your headers? Relocate the O2 sensors or get simulators?

Sorry i thought i said. lol. I acutally relocated the o2 sensors into my b-pipe right before the stock resonator. I never had a problem with the sel until i put on a b-pipe. Then i had problems.

So you originally relocated the O2 sensors to a position in the stock b-pipe (behind the main cat), but when you switched to an aftermarket b-pipe you had an error? What do you use now? Simulators?

Nope. I just reset the ecu. It randomly comes on after about 500 miles or a few days

So, how many O2 sensors are there on 5gens? If I already replaced my cat with a straight pipe and I have a y-pipe, then what do I need to do when I get my headers in regards to the O2 sensors? Also, on the SportCompact website they have a B-Pipe with an extra O2 sensor and one without, which is best?

You will need to get o2 sensors. You will have nothing to clean the emissions of the car and the o2 sensors will go off no matter what.
