misfire cylinder #5

Car started messing up really bad, like it was bucking or something. THen after a while the service engine light came on. Got the codes checked and it said misfire cylinder #5. Is this coils, plugs or what? Its a 2000 with 76k miles.

If you got a P1320 code with the misfire cyl#5 most likely it's your #5 cyl ignition coil. However, could be an EGI harness break. But you can expect an intermittent failure of your coil(s).

Just to let you know that I got this situation 2 months ago which lasted 2 days. General ignition fault P1320 with no specific cylinder. I figured I was getting more than 1 cylinder misfiring and was disappointed it was a general fault. The SES stayed on and I still drove the car(no stalling) for a few days until I finally cleared the light. It's weird but I'm happy cause since then it hasn't occured again. Though, I did buy all 6 coils/new sp.plugs but didnt change them since am waiting for it to happen again.

IMO, if the problem clears out wait again for it to happen if you're willing. There's a huge thread for these coils in the forum.

I had just fueled up near my home and as soon as I started the max the engine was stalling and the SES, TCS and SLIP lights came ON. I drove the car to my home and turned it off. I waited for 5 mins, then re-started again and it was running just fine but only the SES light stayed on.
The next day it happened again after initial start-up. I didnt drive it. The following day my friend came over with his reader and pulled the famous P1320 code and cleared the SES light. Since then nothing reoccured.

does the warranty cover this? I took it in like 20k miles ago about the knocking and they told me my fuel injectors needed to be cleaned. Got ripped on that big time. Shouldnt they have caught this then since it is on the TSB?

Yes, there should have been a recall. Do yourself a favor and replace the coils. I had the same issue (cylinder numbers 2 & 5). Luckily, I fought with the dealer until all I had to pay was for the parts. Next time another one goes, I'll replace the remaining four. It's an easy job to do yourself. Don't let the dealer rip you off.
