Nissan extended warranties are aftermarket. They sell it as their own when you purchace the vehilcle, but in reality, they are administered by a 3rd party, which may, or may not be afiliated with Nissan. But to answer your question, its not a "true" Nissan warranty.. Do yourself a favor, check out some general automotive forums, and search for extended warranty discussions.

Red,

Thanks. I did not know Nissan didn't offer a true extended manufacturer warranty. I called a local dealer, where they go thru what they referred to as 'Univeral Underwriters'. He said they offer a comprehensive warranty that covers everything execpt 'Wear and Tear' items. Now I just need to find out exactly what there definition of 'Wear and Tear' is... Anyway, here is the pricing he gave me - Red or anyone else please comment on this pricing...

7 yr./75,000 - $0 deductable ($995) $100 deductable ($795)

7 yr./100,000 - $0 deductable ($1,395) $100 deductable ($995)

THANKS!

Those seem like low prices. The lowest prices I have seen for a 4yr/ 65k miles was about 1,100. Wear and tear is stuff like tires, oil changes, filters..etc. Items that normally wear down or need to be changed. Do you have a link for that place?

paid $914 for 72 months and 85K miles form the day of my purchase so I bougth the car with 23K miles on it so it is good to go until 108K miles. Covers everything except for wear and tear(brakes, tires, leather seats cracking). 50 dollar deductable. Mine is from my credit union who said they did not mark up the price they bought it at from National Auto Care.

Also pays for
Rental cars
vacation interuption
free towing
tire patching
locksmith service
I can take it to Nissan or any certifed place.

I have not had any repairs done to my car but they are suppose to be good.

ne1 else? I actually thought I purchaseed the Extended waranty from Nissan when I bought my car. It was the gold package thats 5yr/75,000 miles. I would like to add aditional waranty on it though to last until 100,000 miles. Any1 know how much it should cost me? I would love it if they can include tire patches, so that I can go to any Nissan dealer and get it fixed.

tire patching takes 20 minutes by any auto shop. Not worth the trouble going to Nissan to get it done.

I will post more information when I find out all the information on this warranty. I realize what our definition of wear & tear items are (tires, brake pads, clutch, wiper blades, etc...), but sometimes those differ from the aftermarket warranties. My goal will be to find out everything that is NOT covered. I'll keep you guys posted.....

I bought the gold warranty from Nissan for my 2K3 when new. It was about $800.

I had a "Universal" brand warranty for my Expedition. They are in Nebraska, Iowa, etc. area. Good, legitimate people to deal with.

Saved a ton over the Ford warranty.

Shop price!

Be sure your dealership accepts them...if not, you have to pay the bill and fight with them for reinbursement! Not an easy thing to do since they can nickel and dime you. The dealer will negotiate with them for you and get more included in the warranty cost! Been there....seen it.

DO NOT buy some internet warranty unless you specifically know that your garage will accept their payment directly.

You will get hosed by them over time.

thanks

The Nissan dealership in my area is the one who is offering this warranty. So I don't think I should have any problems with payment. I want to be sure what IS NOT covered. (ie - diagnostic cost, rentals, etc...). I did some research as well. Universal Underwriters have been around for a long time, and you can only purchase one of the warranties thru a dealership (to the best of my knowledge). Check it out -

i know the owner of my local dealer and got the car for 500 over their actual invoice. they werent quite as nice on the warranty side though, guessed they wanted to make up some of their money. i went back to school after i got the car and picked up a nissan gold warranty 7yr/100k with 0 deductible for just under 1050 out the door. the dealer where i picked up the car wanted 1400.

Geezz...

I am getting some conflicting answers from different dealers in my area. I called another one that said NISSAN DOES OFFER A 'NISSAN' FACTORY EXTENDED WARRANTY. I am now under the impression that some dealers offer the FACTORY NISSAN extended warranty, and some dealerships go thru an aftermarket warranty company for whatever reason. Is this correct? Someone that knows there sh*t please make my life easier and explain how Nissan Dealerships handle these extended warranties.

Your observations are correct. The dealer can choose to promote either the Nissan plan or an independent plan.

Whichever gives them the better profit margin is the one they push. Remember, if you buy it with the car....you can finance it through your bank.

I own both Nissan and Universal (for the Ford).

In each case, the dealer's pricing steered towards one or the other.

Its that simple. Price rules.

Thanks. It finally makes sense now.....

It seems one advantage of the Nissan Extended Warranty (Security +Plus) is the ability to price shop at all the dealership across the country that offers this plan. You know you are getting the same thing vs. the different aftermarket plans that you have to research each and every time.

Therefore, can anyone recommend a dealer to get the best price on the Security +Plus (Gold Coverage) extended warranty? Purchasing out-of-state will also save me the 7% sales tax, which will probably be around $70 bucks. Sloppymax, you mention $1,050 out-the-door for the 7yr/100K with 0 deductable. That sounds like a good deal. What dealership gave you that deal? Any other leads would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

the dealer i got the warranty from was Wilmington Nissan in Wilmington, North Carolina. I couldnt tell you who the guy was but Tim is sticking in my mind. This was around 3 years ago so I doubt if he is still there but it worth a try. I would give you a number but I have not been back there since I graduated 2 years ago.

Thanks. I'll give them a try...

Anybody else?

It would be nice to establish a 'short list' of a few dealers that will sell these warranties for a fair price, say 5-10% over cost. Obviously most mark these up quit a bit....
