Increase in MPG
Hello folks,
my 2k has had a recent increase in mpg that I am trying to understand. If it is something I did, I want to keep doing it so I was wondering if anyone else experienced this.
When I first got the car I was barely getting 260 per tank. now I am getting about 315-325. The change came after I changed the oil last. I also added a K&N filter element when I first got it on October. My question is: Does the ECU recalibrate after a while (since I changed the filter) or should I be looking elsewhere?

When I had an oil and filter change, my mpg went up too. Not as much as yours, but close. I switched from whatever the dealership was using to Mobil 1 Supersyn 5w30, and I was using a brand new OEM filter. Maybe your mpg went up more than mine because you used a less restrictive filter than I did.
I think both of us saw gains in gas mileage just because we pulled regular maintenance. If your car can't breathe freely, fuel economy and power will suffer.

I also put a K&N filter into my car, and I noticed that my MPG went up too. I also noticed a slight increase after I put a turbonator into my car. However, after I took the turbonator out, I noticed that my exhaust does smell funny. Does the ECU recalibrate?

if your car is new, it's because your engine is becoming more broken in. Mileage will increase as the engine breaks in. Of course it'll only increase in mileage up to a certain point. Using Synthetic oil will increase it a bit too.

My Maxima has only seen 92 once and all the rest its been 93 or 94.
There's a Sunoco in lancaster on the manheim pike that has 94 Octane as their
premium grade. (FYI For you central Pa guys.) I try and fill up there whenever I get down there.

It says he has a 2000. unless he bought the car, and locked it up for 5 years, I hardly doubt that the car is new, and going through a break in stage...
