Well today is Friday, normally a good day here in Bloomington, IN. That means I can pick up my car from the stadium and park it anywhere for the weekend without fear of the ticket ****'s.
However, there is a hitch to this blissful life. Last Sunday night I parked my baby in that enormous parking lot. Monday rolls around and all is well, I make it to all my classes, I go to work on time. An hour before I get off work I decide to check my messages. The first message was from a friend regarding a class, the second message blew my mind. 'Hi, uh, Mr. Lehrner, this is the Indiana University Police Department (right now I think to myself what the hell did I do, I've been at class all day) your car has been involved in an accident(say what?!).' I'm thinking my car's been parked all day, how does this happen? Stolen?
No, some girl hit my parked car. Her Black 2000 Dodge Durango with Kansas plates came around the corner and the rear fender caught the front bumper of my car and tore it off.

I find out that a girl had witnessed this malicous act to my car while waiting for the bus. After her class she noticed that the Durango was still there and that there was no note left on my car, so she notified the police. What an angel! The only bright spot of the whole ordeal.

Right now it is Friday and I just received information that, yes indeed it was not my fault, so I am entitled to a rental car. I will fill in more later, just had to let you know.

Oh man.. thats insane..

indeed, you need to buy that witness something nice, like a gift certificate some place nice to eat. really, that should be rewarded. On the other hand, that Durago owner needs a public flogging.

I know how you feel, same happened here, parked

at school and someone hit my car, but unlike your case no one bothered to advise me or witness this so I had to pay out of pocket and I didn't want to have to clain it on my insurance.

I have never seen or talked to either of them. I did track the witness' email address down and offered to take her out to dinner (after my car gets fixed first, the bus kind of sucks!). She saved me $500, my deductible. The whole bumper cover has to be replaced and painted. The bracket the bumper cover attaches to at the top has to be replaced and the left side tire liner (the plastic piece that lines the wheel well) have to be replaced. A lot of damage for a scrape! But no structual damage whatsoever.

Bumper ...

Well xtan its good to see u got ur car back in form, i had a minor fender bender myself and ive noticed tat like all jap cars the bumper and grilles r weak as hell. Seein ur bumper i was wonderin if the inside of it was made of foam also. Cuz i was shocked when i saw it, but the mechanic said tat most cars nowadays have foam bumpers. BTW the cops let u go with windshield tinted .

Holy poopy!

WOW!
I thought it would be somewhat minor...looks like a 35mph head collision ('cept the bumper is crushed). I don't know how she managed to do that...well look at your parking job (you're parked on the line).

that's where the tow truck dropped it off. That's at the body shop, I was parked 100% legally, dead in the center, always do, avoid door dings.

Hey XTANTMAXIMA-

I love what you did to your interior...especially the nintendo and the dvd player...How does the screen attach to the console? Approx. how much did all that stuff cost? How often are you going to have to buy new batteries? Is the nintendo system hardwired and permanently set in your car or can you detach it? Ever drive to the east coast for any Maxima meets...would love to see you car first hand.

I am a poor college students who can't afford to be driving that far on a weekend. If there ever is a meet in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, or preferably Indiana I can make it. The Alpine monitor and DVD player ISO mount where the old radio went. The only difference is that plastic piece is just a trim piece around the units. The Nintendo is now a part of the car, until it needs to be taken out. The controllers have been relocated to the ashtray (pictures coming). Power comes from a Whistler AC/DC inverter that is under the driver's seat. I don't know what you mean about going through batteries though? I only play the stereo with the car running, and I have a red top Optima. I don't forsee needing to buy a new battery for a long time. I can give you retail prices of the equipment but I had a hookup back home in Nevada at Ultimate Electronics. The DVD and monitor are on the no interest no payment for 1 year plan, so I have to raise funds for those. The list goes like this:

Alpine IVA-C800: $1800
Alpine DVA-5205: $1200
Alpine CHA-1214: $360
MB Quart PSC 216: $499
JL Audio 10W3-6: $199 (x3)
Xtant 2200ix: $999
Xtant 1001dx: $1199
Stinger Status Cap: $160
Stinger Roadkill: $100 three pack (x4)
Clifford IG-7000 $300
Clifford IntelliStart4: $150
Clifford SmartWindows4: $150 (x2)
Optima Red Top: $160
Wiring: Who knows anymore, most from my old car, but there is 12 gauge for all speakers running from their respective to amps. I/O from the battery to the cap. 4 gauge from the cap to the amps. A 4 channel set of Monster Cable RCA's and a 2 channel set.

Install: That's up to you!

Remember this is all full retail, everything in life is negotiable, just remember that! Go to a big store and talk to a young college kid and see what they can do for you! (Hint at giving them the commision they would lose in cash that day, and the prices will come down!)
