Franken Car Intake
Franken Car Intake
I just purchased my 2002 Maxima SE and want to install some simple mods to increase my horse power. Has anyone bought tis intake, and which air filter did you buy with the intake? Has anyone in hear hear good/bad things about this product? Thanks from a newbie.

Do some reading in older threads to find out more info. The whole "which intake is better" conversation isn't really a conversation that anybody here is looking foward to.
so not to start a fight.. but is the Injen a good intake??
not to say it is the "best" i just want to know if it is good and lives up to what it claims?
does anyone know if anyone on the Org. can get a deal on them?
i know Custom Maxima has them for $250.

Don't get me wrong when I say that the Injen isn't a CAI. That doesn't mean that it's a bad intake. One thing that you should keep in mind is that an intake ALONE won't make your car very much faster. It will add a great sound and help with gas mileage a little, but you need to combine it with other mods to really increase your car's performance.
If you can find a good deal on an Injen, you should buy one, but don't expect a dramatic increase in power from an intake alone. Lots of board members will recommend the Berk or Frankencar intakes because they're generally cheaper than the Injen "CAI," and they produce similar gains. One board member even posted dyno numbers where he got BETTER gains from one of the short intakes than he got from a CAI.
I can't tell you which intake is the best, but I will say that even if the Injen WAS a tiny bit better than the Berk or Frankencar, the difference probably isn't worth the extra cost. You can get a Berk for about $130, a Frankencar for about $150, and the Injen for about $250.

After you install an aftermarket intake, your gas mileage will probably go down, because you'll want to stomp on the gas all the time to hear the nice sound!

But once you get over the sound and start driving like a normal person again, your gas mileage should get slightly better than it was when you had the stock intake.

One critical issue to keep in mind with the Injen is that it places the filter in a lower postion under the hood compared to a FC, Berk, etc., which is not good for driving in regions that get a lot of rain and flooding. Also, the filter on the Injen will get dirtier much faster if you drive in sanded, salted areas. However imo, the Injen looks great in the engine bay the way it's designed, as opposed to a normal short ram with a filter hanging off the end of it. The Place racing CAI is the most serious setup out there, however you have to cut into the fender well, and im not to crazy about cutting holes in a car, since I never keep my cars for too long and like to put them back to stock upon selling.
