I couldn't help but saying to myself, after a near collision doing 50 mph, how well the Max's brakes stopped my car. I was traveling on Route 80 in NJ and for those who don't know its a bad hwy, when I noticed a girl cut an SUV off that was right in front of me. By her traveling around 60 and with her Civic losing control she ended up smashing into the wall and as a result of the Civic losing control the SUV slammed on the brakes and in turn I slammed on mine. My car came to what felt like an instant stop and I avoided having my front end smashed up.

I don't know who else has had to slam on their brakes doing 50-60 mph's but I was more than happy when the good ole ABS kicked in.

Hat's off to the brakes, saving me hundreds of $$$. FYI, there are no mods done to my brakes.

 

Has anyone else been saved a collision by their brakes?

um yea i did.. after flooring the brakes ... pulling on the E-brake.. and praying to god..

I think you are the first person to commend the Maxima's brakes.

 

yeh, I warped my brakes within months of getting my maxima, you might wanna see if your rotors are warped...thanks to the blehmco kit, warping is no longer a problem.

 

I've always been happy with the brakes. I've never felt like "I needed to stop faster." Plus, they make a cool "wwwhOOOOOOO!" sound if you hit 'em hard

 

ABS is really to help you turn/control the car when you are breaking, it doesnt realy help with stopping power, from what i understand

 

i think they stop pretty good, better than any of my friends comparable cars... however, i do agree they warp way too easy.

 

My brakes have gotten me out of a jam a few times, but I wouldn't say any better than any other car I've had. Your brakes did what they were supposed to do..stop the car. I wouldn't commend the Maxima brakes as being better. Just my $.02.

 

they're ok for single pistons as far as single pistons go. What can I say, they do the job.

 

Tires play a lot in braking also. What are you riding on?

 

if my tires were a little better quality and i had put my irotors on, maybe i would have avoided that guys bumper. who knows tho. but as soon as i get it back, those rotors are goin on.

 

I don't have any aftermarket brake components, but I had my rotors resurfaced and new pads put in by Nissan about three thousand miles back. Even before that was done, and still now, I've always been very happy with my brakes. I'm sure they'll warp some time soon, and I'll want to go the aftermarket route, but for now, they're quite impressive to me. It seems I can stop on a dime. I would even say that they're as good as, if not better, than those of any other vehicle I've driven. (Except probably for my dad's Cobra, which has like 13" Brembos.) Anyway, just my opinion.

Maxima brakes a sub-par for a car that costs $32,000+ brand new. thats all i have to say about that.

There are so many morons...and rice on Rt.80 they'd even race a bus....I hate Rt.80 because:
1. there are state cops and 2. there are many holes.

I've changed rotors and pads, making braking even better

 

I got brake torqued by a punk kid in moms 5 series after he passed me on a blind turn of a two lane road w/ guardrails.... the max stopped extreemly well. I upgraded to brembo rotors and EBC Greenstuff pads.

 

My front passenger brake squeels under normal braking (not under real light, or moderately heavy braking). It's annoyng, but it's done it ever since I bought the car in August. Do I need to invest in a new set of brakes? It's not like I have money to burn, so I don't want to do anything if I'm ok for a while.

 

Brake pads are designed to squeal like that when they need to be replaced. I'd say you should at least have them looked at, or just take off the wheel and do it yourself. Make sure you're not close to the metal part of the brake pad touching the rotor.

 

Yeah, I know they're supposed to squeal when they need replaced, I just didn't want to admit it. Maybe that'll be my homework avoidance project for tomorrow.

 

isn't the 60-0 rating for our brakes like 127 ft? That's not sub par at all. Not too many cars our size can do that...maybe a corvette or a car thats 20k more expensive. But in normal every day conditions, our brakes are actually quite good. Longevity on the other hand....well i think you all know, there is no longevity to our brakes.

 

Maxima brakes are ok, but they suck compared to those on my Z. $32K+? Huh? Mine was ~$23.5K before tax, title and license when I bought it new.

 

I have all stock on my brakes, I have gotten myself out of a jam nearly collided where the brake did the job. However since i have 39k miles on the clock now, the brakes kind of feels sucky since when I press it, it feels like spongy like i needed more force and it doesn't grab that strong. I can't quite remember it how it felt when I got it brand new with 4 miles on the clock.
