Forgive my ignorance, but how does the Maxima's computer chip pick up on the driver's driving style and then make modifications. I've heard people referring to this before and find it confusing. Is it a long-term thing or a short-term thing? If I drive like a granny for 20 minutes then suddenly want to race am I at a disadvantage? How, exactly does it alter the engine's performance to match the driving style? If it makes a significant differance why would Nissan not allow manual control of this (i.e. Press this button to start pretending you're a race car driver)?

I think your driving style may affect how hard your auto tranny shifts. I drive mine hard at times, and have noticed that the shifts are firm and the downshifts are also quick. So I think the TCM adapts to a certain extent. I don't think driving soft for a short period of time will make your shifts softer though. It hasn't made any difference to mine. You can reset everything by unplugging the battery for an hour and then driving the hell out of it. That way, you know the TCM is in the hard shifting algorithm

The ECU also adjusts to things like more airflow and you also want to reset that after installing engine mods.

I've been driving with my OSCAI/K&N for about 500km now. Do you think I should still unplug my battery for an hour or would things have already adjusted by now? Would the previous 1500km I drove without these mods still be influencing the current program? Let's say I do unplug it and drive the hell out of it. If I then drive gently for an equal amount of time would I not have negated all that effort? The way I see it, the only way to make sure the TCM is always in the hard shifting algorithm would be to drive like a maniac ALL of the time.

I did after I installed the SI & I noticed a difference.
