Help... Buddy getting shafted at the dealer.

As i've probably mentioned a few times past, I have a friend with a 2004 Altima SE 3.5... Over the course of about 7 months it has developed a few neuisances and tried to get them fixed or even looked at and got the run around. He even had one tech tell him one thing in his favor and another tech along with the manager said there were no problems. Here are the Problems... He took the car for these situations last night and there is a summary for what happened with each part.

Bose 6-disc changer - His CD player just crapped out randomly, wouldn't read cds whether it was warm or cold, burned cd or original it just wouldnt read. My friend tested it prior to taking it to the dealer and it still did not work... When he got the car back, it was mysteriously working and the techs at the dealer were basically telling him he is an idiot. He is now afraid it is going to happen again and the dealer is going to give him grief about it.

Center Console cup holder flap - A plastic piece broke off and wouldn't allow it to open and close smoothly. After the ordeal with the radio the techs were being sarcastic and saying there was nothing wrong even though the console was clearly broken. When my friend pointed out that it was REALLY broken the tech sarcasically replied with something along the lines of "well we ordered it for you anyways" implying that he was whining about things with the car.

Clutch - I've driven his clutch and it does not feel like any other nissan clutch i've driven. For some reason the play is very short and he took it in to see if it could get ajusted and becuase the clutch had just gone out for no reason for a few minutes 5 times over the past 7 months. He spoke to one tech who admitted there was a problem with the altimas and their transmissions and even said it could be adjusted and made right. He also said the way it was currently configured would spend the clutch much sooner than it should last due to the fact taht it was "dropping" every time he pressed the pedal. So the manager and another tech return saying the clutch is fine and there is no way to adjust it becuase it is hydrolic. Is this true?... CAN the clutch be adjusted? Were there any issues like this for the maxima?

I believe my buddy posted about this in the altima forums, i am posting here becuase there are a few mechanics in here and dealer reps... I just want a few opinions so that we can go to the dealer armed with information.

Thanks for all input... It is invaluable.

I would take it to another dealer, period. On the clutch issue, just about all clutches can be adjusted, but will this fix the issue is the question. All said, I would still take it to another dealer. You should not have to fix it if it is still under warranty. Document everything and if still not satisfied file a complaint with Nissan.

Yeah it will more than likely need to be taken to another dealer... However his car is still sitting at the current one and i just wanted to make sure that the clutch could be adjusted. Thanks.

Edit: Correction, the car is out of the dealer but parts have been ordered for different problems with the car already so he will be returing to this same one for those issues. If he continues to get **** about the clutch and radio, we have another dealer thats somewhat far but its worth a shot. Thanks so far for this information as there is nothing like going to a dealer and linking them to the forums proving them wrong.

Brand new car in Late June of 2004... He got it with single digit mileage and now has over 16k on it. Still under factory warranty...

He should DEMAND that the dealer do something about it! Why do people take getting pushed around by dealers. It's not like we didn't pay GOOD money for our cars. I don't take ANY BS from the dealer when it comes to my car!!!! Tell your friend to either step up and take charge or bend over and grab his ankles.

and make those demands (along with causing a small scene) when there are other customers present... pausing every now and then to ask the nearest person... "They should fix that for free... isn't that right?" and also throw in the "I'm gonna write relly bad internet reviews for your dealership... esp so all 9072356206702 Maxima owners I know can see em... "

If not... just go to another dealership...

My car was just at the dealer for an idle problem (no longer under warranty, grr!) It seems you have to get extremely pissy before they'll do anything. The truth is that they don't value your business.
