Pros and Cons of performance mods

Hey Guys, I need clarification on this issue. I know the Max has 255hp and to me that's pretty good. I don't test my car on the track or race anyone. I basically use my car for everyday driving. I have all the other mods, e.g. clear lights, hyper whites and tint, but no performance parts yet. I hear people say that you loose torque and hp if you add certain mods, is this true?

Not really lose. Certain mods increase low end torque and some favor high end HP. From what I have gathered exhaust mods seem to favor midrange - high end power and intake mods tend to favor high end HP. You can see data for yourself if you check out the dyno section.

cons - when you sell your car, you can't raise your car's price just because you spent money on mods.

Just do it....

Pros - personalization... increase in driving pleasure from a couple more ponies and better handling...

Cons - dealership hassles... cop harassment... its a lot of $$$... and becomes an addiction...

For the love of everything that is holy, is everything that you think of an intellectual waste?

He must not be. All them tv's and dvd's. You know "bustanutz123" there are other things to life than bling bling and pickin up "mad b1tches" and what not. I tell you what, you put as many TV's and what not in your car, and watch your newfound hope of gettin some, I mean your Porno flicks and let me know how it all works out with you, 'ight? In the mean time, the rest of us will be runnin circles round your ride because you're too busy spending "quality time with yourself"

Cons:
--+1 on the Cabin noise
--More vibration in the pedal dependingon which exhaust you get
--Value of car dimishes with every mod. Yes your car is worth considerably less when you modify it and the chances you will sell it are less unless you sell to an org member (they usually alreayd have one) Trade in value will most likely be nothing because any smart dealer does not want modified cars on their lot. You cannot warranty aftermarket parts and there are about 1,000 other reasons a dealer doesn't want modified cars.
--Reliability of the car may be hindered (depending on mods)
--Turns the heads of cops very fast

Pros
--Individuality
--Car sounds cool
--Better "performance"

Not if ya keep your stock muffler or get one that doesn't drone... so this depends... also depends on if ya get an intake or not... but I guess with headers it'll definitely be louder....

I've had a GReddy and a Frankencar, and now a Frankencar and y-pipe... there has been no increase in vibration on the pedal....

Not entirely true...

That's why you keep your stock parts and then swap everything out before trying to sell it.... you can also then sell some of your mods for a decent sum.... I'm sure there are people who've gotten decent money back for their Max's after parting em out....

The vibration really depends on the fitment of the exhaust system and muffler. The muffler I have now drones a little and for some reason sends vibration to the pedal. Or it is my b-pipe. The moral of the story is buy a system from cattman, frankencar, mossy, or budget. Those are the only dealers I would consider doing business with regards to exhaust.

If you can return the car back to stock then I will somewhat retract the depreciation statement. Majority of cases you will not sell you car to another org member. We make up the minority of maxima owners and future buyers. At least 75% of people looking to buy a Max want nothing to do with any maxima that has been modified, raced, etc.. These aren' exactly cars targeted at young kids like the SRT4.

go with suspension mods before engine mods. Handling is more important in daily driving than is more power

Yup... I agree... I see many more old women driving Maximas around here than I do younger to middle aged guys.... anyways, reason why I said that was cuz I agree that its much harder to sell a modded car... it just makes more sense to part it and then sell it...

Heard anything about those Mossy exhausts yet? Any pics? Last I heard from Greg V they were already available, but I haven't heard of anyone who has em....

I do agree. But it is still so very fun to tweak the engine.

All you people talking about mods and depreciation...

First of all, the Maxima is already depreciating faster than a Skyline runs the quarter mile. Second, if you're that worried about reducing your Maxima's future trade in value, keep your stock parts and return your car to stock before you trade.

I think puppet and I already resolved this

I have not heard about the mossy exhaust yet. I am 90% sure it is available. I may consider buying the mid-pipe and b-pipe from them if : they are willing to sell it seperate, the price is right, it bolts up to a stock muffler. If I did not have an exhaust I would probably try the mossy. They are just as proven as cattman and their dyno numbers for their exhaust can be found at www.nissanperformancemag.com
