does a 2000 GLE maxima have a

I am going to look at a 2000 GLE tomorrow.
I have read up on all the possible and probable problems that they have
tranny slip, coils, leaky sunroof, etc

Is there any thing that I should look at or that I can take apart if the seller lets me?
sould a buyer stay away from 2000's maximas?

also did the 2000's come with a external thermometer?

the car has 67,000 miles and automatic, leather, sunroof,
owner says k/n filter and mobile one oil.
new tires, battery and brakes

thanks

nice car

i have a '00 gle and it is great. My sunroof does not leak, nor have I heard of that being a problem. The coils did go bad, my car has 92,000 miles on it. However, to replace them was $250, 20 min install, and you have the safety of knowing that you only change it every 100k miles or so along with the spark plugs. Regular cars change spark plugs, distributor cap/rotor, wires, it adds to the same total basically, but less maintenance.

My tranny is begining to have the slipping, but no car I heard of lasts longer than 100k for an automatic.

The car has a button next to the A/C controls that tells u outside temp.

will living with the slipping hurt the car, or is it a must fix?

I've got a 2000 maxima (se, granted, but 99% the same as a GLE!), manufactured Sep/99. Bought it at 37k. It had a bad O2 sensor 200 miles after buying it (read: the guy who sold it to me reset the code without fixing the problem). Fixed myself for $85ish. Otherwise I had bad coils at 59k. Replaced myself for $310. I'm now at 79k, going strong with no problem save a possible MAF sensor problem that manifests itself in slight "chugging" only when the car is cold and RPM are below 2k. It's been like that for 20k and is such a small issue that I can't be bothered to fix it.

My sun roof doesn't leak. Actually other small problems are that the rubber seals around where the hood goes down have come loose and a few fallen off (keeps water out of the engine bay a bit). I've not even bothered fixing these, as they are basically non-issues. One's been sitting on my garage floor for a month.

Overall very happy with its reliability.

Mobil1 is good. K/N is silly and I'd go back to OEM air filter if you buy the car.

I have a 2000 SE. No leaking sunroof, no slipping auto tranny. Coils replaced under warranty a long time ago. All in all, a very reliable car Oh, and I had the K&N filter before I went to the Place Racing CAI (which is absolutely awesome), and I did notice a nice (although slight) improvement in throttle response, and performance. So I vote to keep the K&N

I have a 2k GLE. The only two issues I have had was the ECU repgrogram for emissions at 21K miles. Dealer did that and since then no problem. I also had the tranny slipping at about 45K miles. That went away with the TSB performed. Immediately after the dealer did the TSB work for the tranny I added a tranny cooler and did the valvebody mod. It has been going strong since and is now at 110K.

I have not had any ignition coil problems, or a leaky sunroof.

We own three 5th gens in our family...or have owned 3 5th gens. The 2000 SE has had a bad MAF, and thats it. We bought that with 15,000 miles on it in 2001. It now has 78,000. My maxima (now deceased from an accident) had 55K on it when I bought it and when it was smashed 8 months and 30K later...no problems to speak of except for tempermental gas cap SES light (it had to be tightened ALL the way, no less). 2002 Maxima has had only one problem which just surfaced this last week. It has 33K and its ignition cylinder was busted caus my dad put the wrong key in the key cylinder. Those are the only problems we've ever had. I beat the hell out of mine too. It's automatic was still in great condition and the engine was still silent and smooth like new even after I redlined it ab0ut 3000 times. Im not proud of that, but im just stating its durability.

I have a 2000 GLE and I changed the plugs, but not the coils. I think they are next. I have never had the sunroof leak and the tranny feels fine. I wish the rattles were less.

i need to change the front shock mounts. the right one is totally gone at this point.. and i haven't hit any potholes either.

there is some rattling from the right A pillar and you can tell when you physically bump it. haven't fixed it.

i haven't fixed the rear door wind noise either.

you don't need to change the coils unless they break. it gains you nothing.
