Staying with the BLACK theme....

Well, the G35 18's are going on next weekend with any luck (tires need to get here NOW).....

so, since I'm already being a bit of a poser using Infiniti rims, figured I will not be a total poser by using Infiniti center caps

(not claiming to be the first to do this, by the way) so I got my hands on some center caps from a 00 GXE (thanks Jason/soonerfan)...as you early 00 SE and 00-02 GXE guys know, the center caps are all chrome (painted) and would not look good on the gunmetal G35 rims....soooo.....

busted out some testors model enamel and a little tiny brush and did some "customizing" of the center caps....then sprayed on 3 coats of dupli-color clearcoat so they won't chip up...the result below.

by the way, I will be using McGard black splined lug nuts and locks (3rd pic) so I think the black theme will look nice with the dark rims on my black car......

AND since cardomain is down (as usual), I had to post these on another webpage...what's up with cardomain recently...

EDIT: It appears Geocities doesn't want to cooperate either after an hour of the pics being posted....so enjoy these red X's for a while til cardomain comes back on line...DAMMIT

yeah...I got them from a guy on G35frenzy.com...the other G35 forum....the G guys let them go much cheaper than the maxima guys around here sell their SE 17's for!! Unfortunately, most of the G guys are selling them with tires, and the tires are NOT a correct fit for the maxima.

...but there are other threads here about the rims themselves....this one is just about the center caps and lugs that I'm using.... (yeah, I know...BORING...but it's a slow night on the org)

hah thanks....

hey...that's cheating! :

you originally said
"there are some here on the org cheap"
(which there are not)

and then after I said
what are you talking about? G35c rims? lug nuts? center caps? another thread?
you edited your original response to say
there are some on the g35driver forum for sale
so now I look stupid.
j/k I don't care

yeah...I posted last month that there were more G35C rims for good prices on G35driver and G35frenzy......

excellent viewpoint (and rather refreshing, considering how many high school kids have nicer stuff than I do, especially on these forums )

I can see you already appreciate the fact that you have a 2002, 250+ hp "nice" car and can be satisfied with that!.......most of us "born in the 70s or before" guys drove beat-up volvo station wagons, falling-apart honda CVCCs (before there was a "civic") or k-cars when we were in high school....

AMAZING!!! but hey if you wanted the black theme how come you bought the g35 gunmetal rims instead of black rims? i saw your site and your car looks pretty black..wouldn't the new g35 rims kinda mess up that black effect?

I like the black...but want the car to look fairly stock on the outside and not attract too much attention (especially from police).....black rims are a little "much" for my taste...I still want the car to look classy, and the black is a little too much "grand turismo" if you know what I mean...

Looking Good....I just might have to buy G35 rims, spray them black , and use the same lugs you have

Great Idea Irish...I love the black theme as you might have seen

would cops reallllllly care if your rims were black? i mean your car is almost all black..would rims really hurt that much? but if you want to stay classy then i understand

no, not that cops care...but they are more likely to pull over a "modded" car than one that looks pretty stock.....also i don't want every civic out there trying to race me just because I have black rims.

I'd rather impress 20-30-year old women in their mercedes convertibles than 17-year old dudes in modded rice-rockets!

40lbs, last I heard. Irish should weigh one and confirm, because it may even be more.

Yikes... that's like strapping your Maxima into a pair of cement overshoes. Very stylish cement overshoes.

Irish, you've got to have one of the hottest 2000s I've seen. Keep it up! I'm SERIOUSLY considering some G35 wheels. Do you need spacers and stuff like that? I thought the G35 used staggered wheel sizes...

I did this a few weeks ago and can't find the thread, so did it again...

not exactly scientific, but I just weighed them with my floor scale:
me alone: 169 lbs.
me holding 00-01 SE 17" rims (no tires): 194 lbs (-169) = 25 lbs
me holding G35 18" rims (no tires): 193 lbs = 24 lbs.

so....they are about the same weight as stock rims. As an aside, the 235/45/17 Falken 512's on my SE's weight 22.7 lbs each. The Toyo Proxes 4 in 235/40/18 I am putting on the G35s are 23.4 lbs each

so in total weight, it's pretty much a push. Obviously, there is more outer rotational mass, so I will lose some accelleration with the bigger rims...BUT, I am more than willing to put up with that as a tradeoff for better looking rims and better HANDLING (which lower sidewall tire will bring)

everyone here is so jocked up on stupid 1/4 mile times and drag racing.....Performance is more than just accelleration...also includes handling, ride quality, etc......like I said, if I lose a little accelleration, I couldn't care less. Handling is (and always has been) my goal, not straight-line speed. Yeah, the rims are heavy. I couldn't find any light ones I liked that were affordable, and need a strong rim for all the potholes here. Plus, OEM rims are far less likely to get jacked than aftermarket ones, for what it's worth....and with the Nissan center caps, I mean...who the hell wants to steal heavy-*** Nissan wheels

You smoking crack?
stock SE rims + stock Potenzas RE92 = about 50lbs
G35 rims + Proxes 4 = about 47-48 lbs...

to get a rim/tire combo under 40 lbs total, you'd need a 16 lb rim or so...good luck finding a 16lb 18" rim for a reasonable price

All 4 wheels are 18x8, with the same offset. On the G35 coupe, they put 225/45/18 tires on the fronts and 245/45/18 tires on the back, hence the "staggered" look....I am putting 235/40/18 all-around, so I will be able to rotate the tires.

Why not 245x40x18 for the tires? IIRC that's the closest to the OEM diameter.

yeah I know...but since these are gonna be so close to flush, I didn't want them to come out another 1/2 cm...the might stick out a LITTLE too far for my taste......245 is closer to stock diameter, but in this tire its only a .3 inch difference....

actualyy went back and forth on the 235 vs 245 issue, getting out there doing measurements of everything....I was very torn. But 235's are on the way right now, so no use worrying about it now

also want to avoid rubbing at all costs, and I quite often have 3 people in the back seat going out, and I know the 245/45's rub with these rims on a max, and the 245/40 was only slightly smaller....

I was talking about just the wheel itself, no tire. That's what I was told a few months ago -- looks like I was wrong.
