6spd owners, how is the 1-2 shift like?

I recently got new tires (245/40/18 Pirelli Pzero Nero M+S) and also did the ES motor mounts on my 6spd....The first gear wheel hop is gone....I love the new motor mounts and is definitely worth the price.....the Pirellis are very quiet and grippy as well....and the price of these tires is well worth the performance u get...I got mine for $700 out the door with lifetime install, balance, rotation....

But I have noticed that when i do the 1-2 shift....I get alot of spin (not hop)....sometimes its spins for 1 to 1.5 seconds....almost like a burnout....any 6spd owners get this? for reference, I do a speed shift.....not a power shift (holding foot on gas) or granny shift....my definition of a speed shift is, shifting as quickly as possible by using the clutch and letting off the gas....was wondering if any other 6spd owners that SPEED SHIFT, get a long 1 to 1.5 sec spin like me....

i dont really know if mine does that. I dont really speed shift 1-2 much, but i like the sound of those engine mounts. Did you get the one in the center that controls the rotation of the motor?

I get the spin on the 1-2 shift when I push hard. I haven't gotten the hop since installing the HP sts. It seems to help because now the revs that I land at in 2nd are closer to where I let off to start the shift from 1st.

With the Potenzas, I would spin like that if not more.

After the Pilot Sports, I get less than half the spinning.

When I've tried to "speed shift" the only thing that happens is that the wheels chirp for a split second or sometimes not at all.... I have 235/45/17 Falken ZEIX 512s and no aftermarket engine mounts....

thatas weird...i'm sure its not my clutch....cuz i've punched it in all different gears, and it doesn't slip at all....it's actually quite responsive.....

so maybe the only explanation for me spinning 2nd for so long is becuz my pirellis don't have good dry traction? this could be the case, but when I launch, they hook up very well....and if I speed shift 3rd gear....it doesn't chirp....hmmm....?

Or maybe now that I have stiff a$$ motor mounts....I am able to transfer more power to the ground, instead of it being rocked back n forth from my busted rear stock mount....hence the increase in power....then being able to chirp 2nd?

My 6-speed with Nitto NT555's does that same short interval of burning out until the tires bite and pull. My guess is just that the tires are cold, and upon a quick start, the tire spins until heat and friction builds, the rubber then heats and expands allowing for the tires to bite after a second or two of spinning. It's basically the same simple laws that guys on the track follow before launching their cars down the track; Hot rubber will give the most traction.

Stock I would atleast get a chirp if I didnt get wheelhop. With the mods I have now (intake catback TS ECU) and the tires I got 235/45ZR17 Falken Ziex if I dont get massive wheelhop I get 1-3 sec burnout when I "speed shift" and pin it. One time at the dragstrip I had smoke rolling off my tire when I hit second. Of course it was a one wheel peel due to the lack of LSD and the track was really ****ty that night. I think I got better traction on the street.

Heating your street tires up doesnt do anything...

Umm.. actually it does, hot tires are sticky tires. Why do you think people at the track do it, to just waste a good set of slicks?

I heard the opposite....heating STREET tires is a big waste and are not designed to be warmed up.....wheres drag radials and slicks are DESIGNED to be warmed up.....

You have heard correct Steven88. Although giving your street tires a brief spin may help traction somewhat by clearing off any debris if present.
