Passing Lights question
Hi all.....
1st of all, I live in Indonesia (Jakarta) and my car is '04 Nissan Teana w/ VQ23DE engine (Asia's model of the Max).
My car has original HID low beams. In the manual, it's stated that frequent on-off will shorten the HID lifetime.
However, I noted that if I turn the Passing Lights on (by pulling the light switch toward driver without turning on the Auto mode or the City Lights) both the Low Beam (HID) and High Beam (H7 Halogen) will turn on. Passing Lights -- by its nature -- will be frequently on-off.
My question is, I would like to see how the Max with HID behave there. Does turning on the Passing Lights mean that BOTH the HID Low Beam and High Beam are on, or just the High Beam ?
Thanks.
Eri.

i think your describing the same problem we have here, where the switch goes OFF-AUTO-PARKING (Passing)-ON. people have complained about the stupid design of this on here before, saying that if its dark enuff, or in a garage, and you want to go to ON, you have to go over AUTO, and they come on and off for a second, which isnt good. but our high beams DONT come on like this. the only way they would come on is if the stalk (with the headlight switch on it) is pushed to have highbeams ON.

Passing Lights Questions
The AUTO is one other problem. I changed my behaviour to turn the fog lights when it's not dark enough, and turn the stalk to the AUTO when it's dark, so the HID wouldn't blink once or twice.
But what I told you about Passing Light is when we pulled the stalk towards us. It is supposedly turn the High Beams on without the Low Beams (as in European cars with HID) but in my case, when I pulled the stalk towards me, it will turn both Low and High Beams, so the HID will again turn on and off in a very short time.

Yes.. It's true.. then we have the same "Light Control Module" or LKM in BMW world. I think it should not be that way, especially for HID low beams. Turning the HID low beams in passing lights is totally useless, while shortening the HID bulbs life.
Anyone having idea how to disable the Low Beams in Passing Lights?

Don't think too much man in Indonesia. Labor is very very damn cheap. Not even 1/10 of labor cost in US. So why bother doing it by your self. Just bring it to Nissan and ask the mechanic to disactivate that feature.
That is what i did back home Indonesia (Jakarta).

It's not Labor issue. I did bring it to Nissan, and the guy there just doesn't have any idea..... It's standard, that's what they told me. And they wouldn't do any mods to the car other than the std specs.
By bringing the issue here, I am somewhat sure that this design error must have be brought into some Max fanatics' mind and that the guy might have done something to overcome it.
BTW, nice to meet fellow Indonesian in the forum. Nissan is not a very popular brand, although the SUV (XTrail) and MPV (Serena) are getting hotter. But not the sedans...
