I just wanted to confirm what gives the AE that extra 5HP (227HP) over the 222HP?

I don't know if there is a definitive answer, but it has to do with the exhaust. Some say it is the larger capacity I30 muffler that is used, while others say that the intermediate pipe is slightly larger.

I thought it was the AE emblems that added the 5 HP. Hell, the maxima.org stickers add 5 themselves.

You know it's the extra polished AE rims that gives it the extra 5 hp

If anyone has the definitive answer it would be great. Why I'm asking is that if it is the exhaust would changing it to a Stillen give me any real extra power?

http://www.avalonracing.net/maxima.htm

Avalon rates the Stillen exhaust 8HP more over the stock 222HP. So am I only going to see a 3HP gain since my AE exhaust supposedly gives me the extra 5HP? I will be doing a CAI or OSCAI as well but looking specifically at the exhaust. Looking for that extra 5HP answer...

The reason the AE has 5 more HP is because of the muffler design. The same as the I30 and Skyline GTS.

As taken from Nissan.. "The Variable-Capacity Muffler delivers wide-open power-boosting exhaust flow without blowing Maxima's quitem stealthy cover. A special valve says closed when revs are low (e.g., when you're sitting at the light), and opens when engine speeds rise to allow for maximum flow and full-tile horespower. The valve is made of a heat-resistant allow used in jet engines, which is probably why you don't see this muffler on just any car."

and so there you have it..

besides if it was just the AE Badges it would be 20 more HP..

It comes from the intermediate pipe, the mufflers are the same.

Yes, that's what Nissan told me. And the "front muffler", which is also called the resonator.
